Swalwell (D) and Gonzalez (R) have both announced they are leaving Congress due to sexual assault allegations and to avoid a congressional ethics hearing. Yet, the guy Trump wanted as his AG didn't leave until after the committee findings. And Trump won't resign for multiple credible accusations.

I'm convinced if Swalwell had not resigned, Gonzalez would have stayed in office.

Republicans are capable of doing the right thing when it won’t cost them any political power. Otherwise, they are not capable of doing it. Swallwell resigning meant the GOP wouldn’t lose any power if they had Gonzalez resign.

So was there some kind of Swalwell-Gonzalez rapist exchange? Or was it more that the Republicans saw just how horrible this would play out for them if they let Gonzalez stay?

I thought earlier today that GOP sex pest creep Tony Gonzalez would quit Congress, right after Eric Swalwell declared he would resign, but I didn't put that prediction out in the world.

Pretty obvious outcome, because Know Nothing Speaker Mike Johnson no longer needs Gonzalez to keep a majority.

The threat of expulsion was enough for Swalwell and Gonzalez to resign. Let’s see if impeachment and removal does the trick with trump.
