The entire Sting run in AEW, besides paying him due homage for his legendary career, was an extended project to get Darby Allin over enough to be at that world title level. Tonight, that project is complete, and it was a success.
Look, people can whine and bitch and mope and complain all they want--they often do--but I felt the emotion in Darby's promo, I felt my emotion as a five-year-old Little Stinger when Sting told Darby it was his time, and I felt the crowd's jubilation when Darby won. That was a great moment. The end.

I truly believed it was a heat angle until Sting showed up, because AEW would never, ever do that to a legend. Kudos to them for saving that for 9:55pm too because it was the best spoiler ever.
Once Sting showed up, I would've been so mad if it was being all done for heat. They crushed everything about that title change.
