If Labor had had some guts in 2023 and fixed the PRRT, the budget would be billions to the better. Too late now, writes Bernard Keane.

April 21 is World Curlew Day.
This photo is from a few years ago when I found a small group of overwintering Far Eastern Curlews at Port Clinton, Yorke Peninsula.
Three types of ‘true’ curlews can be seen in Australia: the Little Curlew, Whimbrel and Far Eastern Curlew.
Gorgeous birds!

Konrad Benjamin nails the root of the problem: to stop large industries from ripping us all off, politicians need to stop “going to work in the industries that they literally wrote the rules for”🔥
Rules that as Dr Denniss points out, see gas co’s “pay more in PR than PRRT”💥

Palantir manifesto described as ‘ramblings of a supervillain’ amid UK contract fears Alarm caused by posts of Alex Carp, tech firm’s CEO, championing US military dominance and of AI weapons

We really need to rid our country of Palantir, totally and utterly.

The government needs to act on this immediately.

It's little wonder that the uptake of EVs in the Netherlands and in Australia is so starkly different.

Artwork of a hawk's faint silhouette with wings spread out flying at a group of 8 dark sparrows which are scattering in panic. The image was created using a macro photograph of paintwork cracks found on an old wall. The base colour is a light creamy brown with cracks in the paint revealing orange underneath and blue below that give a sense of the branches of a bush.

I want someone (anyone really) to let me put in a pop-up kerb charger so I can charge my own car outside my own house (we don’t have off street parking). Do they exist? Sure. Will the council allow it? No. Is there any other legal way to charge an EV off our abundant solar power at home - no. WTF?

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.
