Today, anyway. Sigh. Maybe tomorrow will improve.
I shall read and attempt to do paying work on things that are not AI bullshit, and maybe.
I am trying so hard to maintain anything like positivity, but I am losing that battle.
A mother eagle in her nest with two puffy grey chicks. She has a dead fish under one foot and is busy handing off a scrap to the chick on the right, while the one closer to the fish rips at it themself.
The kids are getting impatient with Mom and starting to rip their own bits off the fish. They get big so fast!

So grindingly depressed today. Feels like AI has wrecked pretty much everything I've ever cared about, ruined the internet, and now it's going to force itself into my career because every goddamn service out there is using a lobotomized parrot and I won't have a choice but to maintain them.

I started that one last night and am already a third of the way through. Good stuff!
A collage of fourteen by eight squares containing examples of gravitational lenses. Each example typically comprises a bright centre with smears of stars in an arc or multiple arcs around it as a result of light travelling towards Euclid from distant galaxies being bent and distorted by normal and dark matter in the foreground. In some rare cases the smearing is in a complete ring, creating a so-called Einstein Ring.

I am *vehemently ethically opposed on a whole lot of different levels*.
Fuck right off and don't ever expect me to save your ass when your "secure AI-coded WordPress clone" proves it's not so fucking secure after all.
Like, no, dude, I don't just *dislike* AI, don't frame what I just said that way.
I am absolutely spitting furious about AI and how horrifically, catastrophically damaging it has been to literally everything internet I have ever cared about.
Man, I have been mad all day. An old co-worker decided to pop up and brag about his "nearly 100% AI" web development these days.
And then would not. fucking. stop. talking about it.
So gross how all the AI bros refuse to understand consent and insist those who disagree give them absolution too.
... I have no doubt it was still wetter than Tucson, though.
There are parts of it I miss some days (the true desert, some of the beaches), but where I lived it had basically two weathers - nosebleed hot-dry, and overcast. ๐
I'm mostly whining, anyway, we do *theoretically* have some due this coming weekend. I hope. If the system keeps doing its thing.
We usually get a lot more rain, it's just a bad year. I definitely want to live somewhere with more, one of these days. I shall just enjoy yours vicariously. (And not just the rain, weed's still illegal here. Nanny states!)
I used to live in S. Calif years ago. Not *quite* as dry but agreed!
Envy! We're having such depressingly dry weather.
Hers has more strings! Looks like maybe another half or full octave, probably. Might even manage a full O'Carolan on that one.
I haven't gotten mine out in far too long. I should do that.
Yes. This. Of all the things that enrage me about AI, this hovers close to the top (although god, I could go ON about the breaching of trust, destruction of informational integrity, active disincentivization of problem-solving skills).
Inigo Montoya: "I want my [internet] back, you son of a bitch."
A full dutch oven of vegetable tofu soup, with visible chunks of green bean, potato, onion, dark red carrot, sliced mushroom, squash, and soft tofu.
Soup! So many discount vegetables needing using - funny-colored carrots, yellow squash, onions, green beans, mushrooms, something that cut like zucchini but was spherical. Also potatoes, chicken powder, a whole lot of soft tofu, and herbs de Provence. Might have to make pasta to throw in too.
Very much on the agenda at some point, as my friends down here continue to slowly trickle off to other places. The northeastern coast and mountain areas seem likely to suit me, and I've got friends in Canada who've offered couch space. Someday, someday!
Someday I hope to move somewhere that gets real snow. I've only lived in various parts of the south, and I don't feel like I've really experienced proper Winter beyond the occasional excursions into the mountains. Those were lovely. Quiet. Room to think.
Entirely agree. It's my favorite. It's the nighttime of seasons.
Submitted a story. *waves a little cheerleading pompom*
The point is not acceptance. The point is I did it.

Definitely not at that stage yet, but thank you!
Nah, I stick to Bsky mostly. Social media's distracting enough without adding more options.
Haven't actually thought much about their physical looks yet, and I'm *terrible* at drawing humanoids. But if I come up with anything I'll ping you!
mostly pondering what _isn't_ covered by the four so far. (Five, really, the wolfcritter is very much his own being as well. Possibly six, one of the students has a grand-aunt whose circumstances are complicated, weird, and she might in some fashion tag along.)
things that resulted in his leaving the College but that he didn't share, and it gives him some perceptions and capabilities that he won't immediately admit to, but that also put him in some pretty serious danger (and will bring that down on the rest of them).
I haven't started on the others yet, ๐งต
her childhood "imaginary friend," a wolflike thing that doesn't have an actual physical body off the College campus except for a stuffed toy, but can share hers, making her *kind* of like a werewolf.
But the retiree is interesting too--he knows more than he ought to about what's really going on, ๐งต
