Starling with iridescent feathers in black, purple, gold, green and blue splashes around in a creek, a rocky shore in the background.
The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SplashingAround.
This is a common starling taking a bath. The light was hitting those gorgeous feathers just right.

A bouquet of red, orange, and yellow flowers loosely sketched with an ink dip pen.
I was in the mood for something fast and floral after all the somber work I've been doing. #Ink #Watercolor #Gouache #Floral #ArtYear

Augmented Fourth

(2/2) I'm also a fan of the Zork-like text-adventure/interactive-fiction work "Augmented Fourth" (by Brian Uri) which made me laugh with its musical puns and animals in an underground volcano. This game-story was released about 26 years ago, but it's still fresh and fun!

Baba Is You - Wikipedia
"Baba is You" is still my favorite PC-puzzle-game. The meta-levels of this game make me feel like I can change the laws of physics, which is pretty magical (and logical, too). Created by a Finnish author, Arvi Teikari (known professionally as Hempuli). (1/2)

Andrew Mayne mystery-thrillers (from "The Naturalist" to "Chaos Man") entertain while stretching my mind & imagination. His investigators each use differing methods to catch or defeat challenging villains. It's especially fun when the good guys work together.

I grew up in Chigago (in Illinois near the Wisconsin border.) When I was a kid, Illinois had some laws against fireworks sales, while dairy-rich Wisconsin had laws against yellow dye in magarine. On the highway near the border, billboards touted either FIREWORKS or OLEO based on driving direction.

Idiots are everywhere, and their most effective skill is making the rest of us cringe when we get unfairly lumped together with them in a group. Collective blame is so popular despite being a logical fallacy. But it's hard to resist something so much a part of human nature.

My brain refuses to accept just how BIG elephant seals are, with male southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) reaching 4,000 kg (8,000 lbs).
They also, apparently, have strong views on internal combustion engines.
But I want to talk about how they dive WHILE SLEEPING.

A centrist might fare better in SOME midterm races. But if a state/district leans toward a more progressive candidate, why not go with the flow? Also Magyar strategically avoided giving clear positions on specific controversies, narrowing his focus to oppose corruption & non-Hungarian bullies.

I really like "All Systems Red" and the whole Murderbot series. The tv series is also well-done, but not quite the same in terms of plot details or character perspective.

15 book covers
This is an enjoyable series of 15 fantasy books by Lois McMaster Bujold, starting with the novella Penric's Demon. These stories have been helping me to escape from the current horrific news, offering appealing characters in intriguing situations.

What is World Quantum Day and why does it matter?
Scientists, educators, and technology leaders around the world are marking World Quantum Day on Tuesday.
(2/2) "As the day ends, the students leave the lab still debating what they learned—not because the answers are unclear, but because they are beautifully incomplete."

World Quantum Day: What is it?
Every year on April 14, scientists, students, and curious minds around the world pause to celebrate something that is both invisible and foundational to modern life: World Quantum Day.
"Outside the lab, most people never think about quantum physics. But it’s everywhere. In the light hitting your eyes. In the chips powering your devices. In the equations that quietly run modern life." (1/2)

Hungarian election results.
Péter Magyar victory rally.
One way that Orbán sought to entrench power was adopting a new Hungarian constitution in 2011 that classified many policy areas as 'cardinal laws' that require a two-thirds majority vote to change.
With almost 100% of votes counted, the Hungarian opposition has just achieved what seemed impossible.

Why Hungary’s Election Could Swing on Roma Votes
Will the Hungarian election show a path forward to good things? The Roma in this article are determined to aim their votes strategically to sway a close election.
Big $$ knows that voting will continue to matter until people get too cynical to vote and hope.
