That’s a wonderful ability. Has it helped you in work or your personal life?
Jade here. Not sure, but it reminds me of anxiety sensitivity. That’s where people are afraid of sensations linked to anxiety. They may misread them as dangerous. In some cases that might mean perceiving or describing them inaccurately.
How is this for a conversation starter?
“How’s your phenomenological experience of Being-in-the-world disclosing itself through Becoming over there?” 🤭
“How’s anxiety revealing the structure of your existence over there today?”
“How’s the weather now over there”. 😆
That’s about the epitome of small talk!
What would the opposite of that be? Something to initiate a conversation that is as engaging and inviting of real thought as possible?
Do you have interesting conversation starters?
I’m not sure there is a word for not being able to describe sensations; generally we would say ‘challenges with interoception’.
- Alexithymia plays out at the level of emotions.
- Interoception plays out at the level of bodily sensations.
So many autistic people (of all support levels) experience alexithymia, which "is a condition where you have challenges identifying and describing emotions in the self. Essentially, alexithymia is a difference in emotional processing." @embraceautism.bsky.social:

Thank you! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and a great start to the new year.
And don’t forget to extensively cross-reference them, of course 😆
It’s 2026!
Whatever this year holds for you, I hope it includes meaningful connections, reduced pressure to perform, and the freedom to be exactly as you are!
Happy New Year! 🎇

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But maybe when you’re autistic, you have a need to record all those words, categorize them, and cross-reference them to identify meaningful patterns. 😅

In high school, two guys were talking, when this gifted autistic guy with a 164 IQ strode up, stood perpendicular to their center, announced something vaguely interesting about a game he’d played the night before, and walked off. I watched the whole thing.
It was hilarious, and he’s my hero. 😆
