Latest owl mayhem: with the bebes about as big as the parents, I guess room in the nest is limited. The adults are frequently out in the tree during daylight hours—must to the noisy consternation of all the other neighborhood birds. This appearance was greeted with very noisy crows.

Back in about 2008, I was at some event at the ExCel Ctr in London (a comic con or something like it), and they had these models out on display. The movie wasn’t out yet, so I had no idea what it was all about—but they looked really cool!

I thought of this very line when the story broke this week about the UK letting the Russians know, in no uncertain terms, that they were not unseen.

Interesting to see how close the intercepting British ships were to the Russian surface vessel. They were making the case much more aggressively than usual.

Lot of talk about war crimes lately. Here’s one: Russia is firing mines, disguised with a wrap of heart-printed cloth, into civilian urban areas.

Owl drama continues! THREE bebes this evening, testing their wings by hopping from branch to branch while mom looks on. I am led to believe these are Great Horned Owls—we have an absolute infestation of them now!

OWL UPDATE! This evening we saw not one but two owls. Not the ones we've been hearing, but their KIDS! It turns out, apparently, the owls we've been hearing for months have been nesting in the tree line at the back of our yard this entire time, and today they rolled out their teenagers to prove it!

We very rarely get to see our local owl, though we hear it nearly every evening. (And its mate. Or rival? There are frequent hoot-offs, and you can tell the two voices apart.) Got a nice visit this evening. It’s huge—close to twice as big as the red-tailed hawks.

We destroyed two of our own C-130s on the ground. Which means they were on the ground. Which means the rescue operation was, at least in part for at least a while, a ground operation.
