The hypocrisy is nauseating. Anthropic argued that laws protecting the IP of authors, such as myself, shouldn't be recognized because AI models are for the betterment of society. If so, then the same argument should apply: Anthropic's IP should be fair use since AI is for the betterment of society.

This is the second account - the first being in Chicago - of DHS agents mass detaining people and then *sorting them by race*.
Judges have mostly rejected the government’s attempt to detain anyone who is black or brown. As of early January (the last time anyone had time to count) 300 judges in 1000s of decisions rejected the government’s arguments. Less than a dozen permit it.

Local immigrant defense networks were deluged with life and death cases. They put a call out for private lawyers to step in and provide pro bono help.
My firm did. And since we joined the effort on January 14, it’s been some of the hardest, most exhausting, most depressing month of my life.

Legal status doesn’t matter: if you exceed ICE’s melanin threshold, you get snatched. It is ethnic cleansing. There is no other word for it.
The news has shown you video of these often violent detentions. What you don’t see is what happens to these individuals after.
I’ve had a front row seat.

Disabled people are part of the future.
We must and should imagine and dream of futures where disabled people don't just exist but are everywhere, as we should be.
This need to fix/cure all disability is a eugenicist dreaming, and we should want better for ourselves.
Happy western colonial New Year - 2025 has officially been flushed down the toilet 🚽🧻✌🏾
18 connects to apply to a job, more connects to boost your proposal to the top over everyone else who has paid to apply to the same role. $20/mo. subscription to get 100 connects a month, unless Upwork happens to delete your connects, and then the AI offers the only solution, which is to buy more.
So, I guess the joke is on folks looking for work. We'd make more money investing in Upwork stocks than spending our hard-earned money applying to Upwork job listings. They make you pay to turn your availability button on, and it's a weekly cost, just for that button.
The predatory structure of Upwork now makes sense:
It's owned by shareholders such as institutional investors like The Vanguard Group & BlackRock, who together hold over 50% of the company's stock. CEO of Upwork, Hayden Brown, also owns a % of shares.
They @up-work.bsky.social also raised the fee on writing gigs to 15%. In 2021, if you made over 10k on a gig, the fee dropped to 5%. Then changed & all jobs, regardless of how long + much it went up to 10%. Now they raise it to 15%. The level of corporate greed. Now, no humans, just an AI bot. WTF.
America and its oligarchy of corporations run on snake oil.
@up-work.bsky.social explain to me why anyone should continue to use your platform? Upwork is valued at close to 2 billion dollars, which is due to firing humans from customer support and nickel-and-diming people who want to work.
How in the name of sanity does this make any sense? @up-work.bsky.social
All this talk about AI being the future. @up-work.bsky.social Upworks AI system can't understand that eleven months of credits should equal 110 credits, not 10 credits.
@up-work.bsky.social is a nickel-and-diming POS. Upwork has obviously fired their humans & left the entire freelance community to deal with an AI "customer support" system that doesn't understand jack 💩. Its auto-response is to buy more credits. It can't do math, add, or reason.
The United States is not postcolonial. it’s actively colonial.
Every economic downturn, I find myself here. This time, the cost of housing + food is so high that homelessness arrived faster than I could process it. Three degrees, cripling student debt, and purposely kept out of the workforce. This country is trash.

I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.
LIVE NOW: Sen. Booker’s Senate speech protesting Trump administration www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Nf...
I just hope people know if this guy can be sold into slavery in El Salvador by mistake, other people can be sold into slavery in El Salvador “by mistake”.
I’m heading to the Senate floor because Donald Trump and Elon Musk have shown a complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people. You can tune in on CSPAN, YouTube, X, and Facebook.

Absolutely worth the read. She gives an inside account of how people are being treated in these ICE detention centers that are actually for-profit and are part of the push for stricter immigration laws (to keep centers filled) which is beyond deplorable.
A recent study found that cervical cancer deaths in young women have plummeted since the introduction of the human papillomavirus vaccine.
