"What if Jonathan Bryan wasn't communicating in his own words at all?"

A startling investigation by @garynunn.bsky.social into the so-called "miracle cure" known as Facilitated Communication:

Sperm donor Mark met his biological kids. Then the IVF clinic found a mistake Some of Australia's largest IVF clinics have passed inaccurate information about children born from sperm donations to their male donors.

My ABC News investigation reveals 2 major fertility clinics have sent sperm donors inaccurate family lists of the children born from their donation; in one case, 3 times over.

One major clinic recently lost all a donor’s newly donated blood for screening www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...

‘Our autistic son was manipulated by speech therapists who put words in his mouth’ Alex’s parents were told he was ‘communicating’ via a controversial method – soon, their excitement turned to suspicion

Non-verbal Alex's speech facilitator claimed he'd said-via an ABC board-he wanted to live in a town away from his family

“He’d have died if that happened” mum Mary Busk says

As she learnt, it very nearly did #facilitatedcommunication

Nothing suss about Sussan’s extra ‘s’. Many leaders go gaga for woo-woo Sussan Ley was influenced by numerology. But is it less ludicrous than theology?

Thrill-seeking made me feel alive – until the day I hurtled down a volcano on a mountain bike | Gary Nunn My bungee-jumping and skydiving days are over because I can’t shake the visceral memory of learning that I’m not invincible, says freelance journalist and author Gary Nunn

Last year, I broke my wrist when mountain biking 🚵‍♀️ down a volcano 🌋 in Peru 🏥

Almost 8 months on, I’m still in physio & my wrist still isn’t fully functional 😭 🤦🏼‍♂️

I wrote for today’s UK Guardian ‘Why I quit’ series about what it taught me 😳

I was a social mobility experiment. Here's how it changed my life Summer schools sent underprivileged kids like Wes Streeting and I to university. Reuniting with some of them 25 years on, this is what I found

@garynunn.bsky.social thank you for this. I spent years mentoring the ‘working class gifted’ and telling them how much more they were worth to employers vs well supported kids with the same grades. This observation isn’t made often enough:

ADHD diagnoses are skyrocketing but coaching can help With more Australians than ever being diagnosed with ADHD, how do the treatments on offer stack up?

Today’s @abcnews long read is on #ADHD and is written by me.

It specifically looks at a way of managing the condition without medication: the ADHD coach.

They do 9 months of training, zero marketing to recruit clients & charge $190+ per hour.

The broader point about anonymity is that the first donor conceived people have now come of age & many say they long to meet their biological dads/family members for a whole bunch of reasons. We should listen to them.

It shouldn’t be up to donor conceived people to pay to join a commercial DNA database where there’s only a slim chance they’ll trace their genetic dads (he may not be on there). If clinics create humans they should be legally required to help them understand their biological roots; onus is on them

When it comes to anonymous sperm donation, the U.S. should look to countries like Australia to inspire better regulation, @garynunn.bsky.social writes in a guest essay.

My first piece for The New York Times

From 1 January 2025, Colorado will become the first U.S. state to outlaw anonymous sperm donations

Abolishing anonymous donation worldwide will help donor conceived people to know their genetic identities

I spoke to Australian digital nomads in Bali, Thailand, Colombia and, of course, Argentina to discover what life on the road is really like.

For many, it’s one of the best ways to feel alive: to go on a new adventure / challenge yourself.

‘What many of us feel’: why ‘enshittification’ is Macquarie Dictionary’s word of the year The committee’s honourable mentions went to ‘right to disconnect’ and ‘rawdogging’

Australia's Macquarie Dictionary crowns #enshittification as the word of 2024

As @pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy said earlier this year: "We’re all living through the enshittocene, a great enshittening, in which the services that matter to us, that we rely on, are turning into giant piles of shit”

Just 16c in every $1 was donated to charities from Shane Warne’s foundation.

Celeste Barber's $51.3m could only be used for training/admin/equipment for NSW rural fire service

In today's @theguardian.com: why overhead costs at well-established charities matter.

Not if that London based CEO has increased tenfold the number of Macmillan nurses able to be sent out than a lesser-paid CEO (with fewer skills, experience and nous)!

The way we think about charity is dead wrong Activist and fundraiser Dan Pallotta calls out the double standard that drives our broken relationship to charities. Too many nonprofits, he says, are rewarded for how little they spend -- not for wha...

Again, if they're helping more animals than a lower paid CEO would, absolutely yes.

It's the same as business. It's about impact.

Recently, Australian broadcasters panicked: next year, “our inflation rate could have a 3 in front of it."

I’m so used to triple-digit figure inflation in Argentina, I had to check if they meant 300

But the projected figure they’re worrying about is 3.7%

If they're responsible for the charity fundraising more, and therefore sending more Macmillan nurses to more homes, then 100% yes.
