i'm certain it would take a significant amount of effort to do a retranslation/localization so i get it. i guess i just really appreciate that most anime i watch has different localization for subtitles versus dubs
not to rag on video game localization teams but i'm really frustrated by games that offer options for original audio but use the english dub's localization for the text. i'll see a character nonverbally gasping at something and then a subtitle claiming they shouted "what the hell!?"
i've always hated their name because every english teacher always told us "don't start your essay with the word 'imagine'" and i think that should apply to band names as well
people really hated hope as a character and that's entirely because of societal toxic masculinity lmao

there are some neat nuances in the japanese script (that even i, with my limited japanese knowledge, can hear) that the dub localizations just ignore altogether in a really annoying way. i wish there were better subtitles
