lots of conversation about AI and research summaries but I learned 20 years ago that SparkNotes are useful but ≠ reading the book and I'm still at that restaurant today
As ever, I'm also looking forward to meeting folks I've only had the pleasure of emailing. While I won't have a book display, I will be attending panels and moseying around— so if you would like to discuss your scholarly book idea, reach out here or email me: linda(dot)braus(at)palgrave-usa(dot)com.
It is extremely gray and dreary in NYC today and it has me really looking forward to attending #ICFA for the first time in a couple of weeks-- the research looks sooo interesting and the probable sunshine will be an added bonus! @iafa.bsky.social

I am so sorry this happened to you, I have also had some unwelcome contact with folks I knew in the past over LinkedIn of all places and it's so unsettling.
A collage of six images: a Palgrave Macmillan cake, book covers like 'FUN!' by Alan McKee and 'The Psychology of Brexit,' and 'Future Fear.' One image shows a person in a suit and another shows handprints on glass.

The longer the coat the closer to god (workshopping this)
no this makes sense because so far I've only been wearing the short coats and indeed feeling Far From God. good to know the fix for this
Ok so uh how does one cite a Peloton ride?
Me too!
It is such a privilege to work on books about books across the board, but the books I work on that represent innovative approaches to the "classic" American authors that in many ways inspired me to aspire to be an editor and to work in publishing do bring me a specific shameless (and nerdy) joy.
This comes as a great accompaniment to the award-winning collection POE AND PLACE (2018), also edited by Philip Edward Phillips: link.springer.com/book/10.1007...
It may not be Halloween anymore, but it's always Poe season if you ask me. I'm so proud to have POE SPACES, a fascinating collection of interdisciplinary work in spatial studies on Edgar Allan Poe on my books program, available now: link.springer.com/book/10.1007...

"The author of the project may be counting on [your peer review] for tenure or promotion and cannot move forward without your input."
THIS. Academia is already such an ecosystem of precarity, so for the sake of your fellow academics, please deliver peer reviews on time!
Photo of a white fluffy dog getting a hug
“Dogs don’t actually like being hugged and cuddled”
maybe not all dogs but I have a bichon, trust me she will turn to dust if she does not get a hug

Thrilled to read this review of THE GERMAN HEROIC TRADITION IN VIDEO GAMES: PLAYING MASS MEDIEVALISM, which reinforces my belief that monographs can be fun. 😀

this time of reflection brought to you by my internet randomly breaking for 10 minutes
bonus thought: my husband still very stuck on none of them having an answer to the question about whether there is a missing parade when the obvious answer is "ticker tape parade to celebrate a New York Knicks championship"-- he is, of course, right about this
thoughts on the mayoral debate last night:
-my vote is unchanged, surprise
-man, Curtis Sliwa is pretty funny though, not gonna lie
-Mamdani and Cuomo sharing the debate stage still evoking the first televised presidential debate between JFK and Nixon
