Well yes. That was my story of a few days in Germany. Not every train, but many. Standing at Harburg at the start made me wish for a UK-level service!

Westerland is on the island of Sylt. The only way of getting there is via a land bridge called the Hindenburgdamm, a railway-only causeway built in the 1920s.
And for most of the trip we'll have DB Class 218 from the 1970s pulling the train! Sign me up!

I did manage a ride on the ferry before it closed in my first year at Hull. There's not much to remind us at either end now, but i did go to look!
I took a look at Perth's grand old station before heading out to two new stations at Cameron Bridge and Leven.
It's a very cold wet day in January, but I'm keen to explore Sir William Tite's testament to the great railway era and then compare it to the new Levenmouth line

Great day out! Video to follow some time in the summer 😉
Oh yes 😀
I've not ridden the DB high speed ICE trains very much on the channel, so now it's time to remedy that with a run from Berlin to Hamburg.
I had a chance to take in the epic size of Berlin Hauptbahnhof before a pretty nice lunch in the Bord Restaurant on the ICE to Hamburg.

The old HSTs in Scotland will be withdrawn soon, so I shall take you on what may well be my last ever trip on an HST set. It might get shortened by the bad weather, as ScotRail are telling us that the line is closed beyond Pitlochry. Mind you, I'm feeling lucky today...

I've not visited Tobermory for over 30 years, so I think I'm due a return. The connection with Oban is easy, just hop on the ferry to Craignure then pick up the "connecting" bus on to Tobermory. Even in the rain, both the ferry ride and the bus ride are wonderfully scenic.

I'm planning to go on the Tiree ferry as far as the island of Coll, before the ferry returns from Tiree to pick me up for the ride back to Oban.
That means the ferry must make port in Coll TWICE, and the crew aren't sure whether that will be possible. Let's see...

My cab seat brings all the cats to the yard
And they're like it's better than yours
Damn right, it's better than yours
I could teach you, but I'd have to charge
Went visit daughter/grand daughter in Bristol. Rode this coming home from Bristol to Exeter. Did not like the std class seats. Gave me backache in an hour. Oh well. Might just be me, but the lumbar support, I thought, was too high up the back.
Tbh, now you mention it, I wish carriers would charge for excess luggage as on certain trains tourists with massive cases are making the trains very difficult for other people. I travel with just a small bag, so this makes this train attractive for me 😉
After arriving in Fort William on the sleeper, I must now travel across to Oban by coach. This should be a beautiful winter's journey as the route follows the shore of some of Scotland's lovely lochs all the way.
So join me as I try out West Coast Motors for the first time.

Enjoy ❤️
Loving that scoreboard! ❤️
Let's go!
Ah yes. I've seen that one before. Love a bit of archive.
The direct train from Chur to Basel takes 2 hours 18 minutes. But if you want to go via the "Gold Coast" on Lake Zürich, then you'll need four trains and three changes. Swiss railways are an integrated service so this should be a breeze. But will it be?

Well said sir. So many stories turned into requirements specs with the so-called "solution" being the title/focus instead of the users' problem. Fought that battle many times...
Thank you ❤️
I'm on the first Caledonian Sleeper service for Fort William that's called in at B'ham International. Will it open up more of the market to people that live in the Midlands and maybe the South West too?
Let's try it to see if there's any point stopping at Birmingham too.

Thanks. That's very nice of you to say 👍
Many want to ride the Bernina railway from Chur to Tirano. But what is it like, and how can you make the most of your day in the mountains?
Join me as the line climbs over 2,000 metres above sea level with views from the train of wonderful alpine vistas.

Been up in Scotland messing about on CalMacs and buses. It's been excellent!
Well done to @everylaststation.bsky.social
Great work!
The cafe in Fort William station ticked your boxes I'd say.
And don't forget Sullivans in Pz!
Thank you so much for watching the series ❤️
That is neat ❤️
Needs to have another column for platform numbers...
