Spring is here on Lac Léman. Finding myself taking long routes walking or cycling to work to take in more blossom unfolding.

Spring is (reluctantly) here in Lausanne, albeit at 5 degrees C. Sleeting snow this morning, hoping it will warm up!

I love Switzerland. Meet the traditional Tschägätta - guardian mischief spirits of the Lötschental (and other valleys too), who roam around from Candlemas to Ash Wednesday and throw people in the snow if they are feeling unsociable!

Celebrating my new nephew, born 3 weeks early and doing great! Was wonderful to be there briefly to help my beloved sister with the first 3 days.

Ridgeline chart showing the distribution of global daily air temperature differences from the pre-industrial reference period (1850-1900), for every year between 1940 and 2024. Each individual year resembles a hill, shaded in a darker shade of red and further to the right for warmer years. The trend is clearly towards warmer years, with 2024 standing out as first year above 1.5C.

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold.

We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940.

2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

Binge-re-watching Blown Away (Netflix), thought occured: this show was a quiet piece of perfection. It's thrilling, it showcases incredible art and talent, the evaluators are fair and kind, and the glass blowers are wonderful humans, even while competing. Even the music is lovely. #chilltv

I don't know how you guys wake up in the morning and immediately turn on a TV show about politics. We need to go back to when morning TV was mostly weather talk and also there was a chimp there sometimes.

Belated happy New Year to all! Taking lots of light from my holiday season forward into 2025, to try to make a brighter year out of dark times in 2024.

Had a great trip to Saudi Arabia, to join KAUST moderators and amazing Young Reviewers as a speaker at COP16 on behalf of Frontiers for Young Minds. Thank you to everyone for a fascinating and very hospitable experience!

Fabulous sunny day up at Glacier 3000 here in Switzerland (and covered by our annual Magic Pass). Managed to get the sunset from the Peak Walk bridge - we were in the last gondola to come down for the day!

Some more of me. Mountains are the best, and sharing mountains with my little explorer is even better!

To introduce myself here on BlueSky, thought I would share some snaps of where I spend my weekends - Swiss mountains. #nofilter #swisslife #mountains
