Anna's Archive to pay $322million after losing court case for scraping "nearly all of the world’s commercial sound recordings” from Spotify Shadow library Anna's Archive has been ordered to pay $322million (£237million) for scraping "nearly all of the world’s commercial sound recordings” from Spotify.

I'm not necessarily going to bat for Anna's here but it's fucking WILD that companies will scream bloody murder to the tune of $millions when my work is scraped for archiving, but startups get funded to the tune of $millions when they're scraping my work for LLMs.

A Man and His Meat Boy kibble went viral. Here, John Paul Brammer explains why you'll have to pry his dry, loose meat from his cold, dead hands.

In my latest for Playboy, I wrote about meat, masculinity, and "boy kibble," the trend of men eating a pack of unseasoned ground beef for dinner. I argue it's the perfect meal to illustrate the isolation and nihilism in our ultra-capitalist system www.playboy.com/read/lifesty...

its also funny because aftermath published this literally the moment he went live to announce it

6 days ago 1 1 1 0

he announced it at the beginning of this mornings stream. I didn't catch the full reasoning bc of ads, but he said something about safety, and probably all the other reasons that a person would probably think of in to convince themselves that it was an obvious joke in the first place lol

not only is the northernlion cruise 100% real, but it was just canceled

It changes perception because it's real! I've always appreciated devs who go the extra mile for producing handwritten notes and textures in real life to put them in video games (Alan Wake 2 is a very unique prime example, Re Engine Resident Evil titles, Eriksholm, and TLOU series also come to mind)

OpenAI Backs Bill That Would Limit Liability for AI-Enabled Mass Deaths or Financial Disasters The ChatGPT-maker testified in favor of an Illinois bill that would limit when AI labs can be held liable—even in cases where their products cause “critical harm.”

As an Illinois resident, I say hell no.

"OpenAI is throwing its support behind an Illinois state bill that would shield AI labs from liability in cases where AI models are used to cause serious societal harms."

One of the most popular JavaScript packages on earth Axios has been compromised The Axios NPM package has been compromised and the maintainer of the project has been locked out of their account. This will go down in history as one of the most successful software supply chain attacks ever

This is a big deal. Already seeing evidence of this by way of OpenClaw installations.

fun reminder:

the reason why they make these fucking pointless "live action" remakes is because since it's "live action", the animation is considered "vfx" and not character animation, so they can pay these non-unionized satellite studios fuck-all and make a cool few million for essentially nothing
