I had found a new spot and negotiated a price. They came back a week before lease signing and wanted an extra $1000 / month and I told them I no longer wanted to do business with them. They have since raised the price to nearly double what they wanted and it is (shockingly) still vacant.
I closed down my original location because the landlords in that area are more than content to hold out for a high-paying tenant. Some of these locations have been vacant for 5+ years. A few high profile centers want $35-$40 / square foot + $10 / sq ft CAM fees. Very unrealistic.
A former customer who mainly bought manga titles had his entire opinion of comics formed by what he read on Xitter and watched on YouTube. Never read American comics but he had strong opinions about all of them and how "awful" they are. He was exhausting to talk to.
The Brown Album has some really great stuff on it. "Shake Hands With Beef" is a highlight. Not my favorite Primus but it's in my frequent music rotation.
I read the first issue and really enjoyed it. My recommendations typically hold weight with a chunk of my customer base. (They have good taste!) Hopefully we can get this thing rolling for you!
Comics needs new and original ideas. If Destruction Be Our Lot is a wild one.
For some reason stuff I ship from Cincinnati to eastern PA takes 3-4 weeks. Stuff I ship to California takes 3 days. I could walk to Philly faster than USPS gets stuff there.
(Also...thank you for the cool swag you sent for If Destruction Be Our Lot! Trying to get the pre orders going on it!)
Where else are you going to teleport? Detroit?
One of my favorite cover artists. I get tired of all the pin up style covers. Dave brings energy and style.
And We're Taking Everyone Down With Us TP has done quadruple its floppy sales thanks to @ashcanpress.com sending us signed bookplates. For Marvel, their Godzilla books, Ultimate line, X-Men and Uncanny X-Men are doing well.
Anecdotal info, but for us we're seeing -- Compact Editions (and whatever Marvel calls theirs) sell like crazy, Absolute collections (especially Batman) are doing great, Image Compendiums (especially Invincible with the new season approaching), all doing great.
And make sure that tea is prepared in a microwave, as tradition dictates.
Just found out Marvel is finally printing a Poe Dameron Omnibus by @charlessoule.bsky.social and art mostly (all?) by @philnoto.bsky.social. This is a vastly underrated Star Wars series that did way more justice to the character than the last two movies did. Order from your local comics shop!
I did my part! Looking forward to reading this!
Disappointed I can't make it to Chicago this weekend.
I don't like AI because AI shoved me down and kicked me in the knee.
Do you mean to tell me the business model of:
Step 1: Steal from creators
Step 2:
Step 3: No profit
Isn't a viable one?
PRH still had a few of the Maxx / Batman hard covers, but nothing else. Not sure if any of IDW's stuff would still be tied up at Diamond.
I don't know how the details / rights issues would work, but The Maxx seems way overdue for a compendium or omnibus edition. Sam's work was meaningful to so many but is just unavailable to modern readers.
Oh, no. A visionary creator, for sure. :(
It might be part of the reason I adore "The Big Lebowski" as a film. All of The Dude's dialogue was loaded with "um" and "uh" and they were 100% in the script. Bridges makes it flow because there's a near-lyrical cadence to the dialogue. Would not recommend for every movie.
It's really fun to see you working on a few DC books. Nice work here.
It definitely added depth, and it was good. Maybe if it had been broken up a bit more? Fatale is one of my favorite Brubaker / Phillips stories, so this is just me nitpicking.
When Nostalgia Ink opened 14 years ago, to sell new comics you either needed a Diamond account or had to be good at hijacking UPS trucks. They were done in by their own hubris in thinking they were an untouchable monopoly. I can't see myself keeping my account active with the new crew.
The new Diamond Comics had me go through a few steps to get into their new operation. After getting hit with a few pop ups asking me to subscribe to marketing e-mails (no, thanks!) I took a look around. Lemme see...
There's nothing I need. Nothing. I can order from Yankee Candle, though!
Volume 3 was all the background of Fatale. Please don't get me wrong (it's really good) but I felt it was a lull in the overall series. The good news is it's all wild times as you hurtle towards the conclusion.
Anyone feeling thirsty? (This comic was released in 1996...I'm sure this is fine.)
At least White Sky #1 has caused people to stop asking if I have D'Orc #1 in stock.
Dark City
The old Muppet Show had some great episodes (though it's all great). My favorites: Alice Cooper, Milton Berle, John Cleese, Harry Belafonte, Mark Hamill, Elton John, Rita Moreno, Buddy Rich, Liberace, Steve Martin and Roy Clark. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. (Berle vs Statler & Waldorf = GOLD.)
