Gentle reminder that if you're looking for a nonfiction book about a long walk with "wild camping" in Cornwall in which the author politely paid at all the campsites he used and didn't make anything up, there's this thing called #TheGraniteKingdom by some bloke called Hannigan...

Yeah he’s getting into a series called Warriors - about feuding cat clans 😬 I read them to him as they’re a bit above his ability but we’re onto book 2 now. He loves them! And we usually do a Roal Dahl once a week.

When the ‘alleviating your work load’ rationale for AI becomes ‘we’re replacing you with AI so you no longer have that pesky work load problem’.

Shawshank Redemption is an almost perfect adaptation of Rita Hayworth, which is itself an almost perfect novella. I cannot imagine anyone hating either!

Revival is a funny one because I think the ending is slightly overhyped and actually it’s the novel which precedes it that is more interesting. I like the focus on the subtle ways we grow old and the influences that shape us - those forces and people that come in and out of our lives.

lol. My most bonkers option is always Squirrel Nutkin. My kids ended up learning all the rhymes verbatim!

Well that just makes it more awesome.

You must read Black House, it’s simply superb.

Hold that thought! Wizard and Glass is something special.

But I agree - I’m more of a Talisman guy than a DT guy.

Joyland is probably top 3 for me. I’ve since re-read it a dozen times!

I really enjoyed You Like It Darker - thought there was a bit of the old King magic there.

How else am I going to fortify myself for a full day of teaching?!

I’m not joking but watching Cheers and then just checked Bluesky and saw this post at the exact time Cheers went to adverts and your face popped up for the Suez programme (congrats, btw!).

Ugh you’ll need to fortify yourself! I’ve read Outsider, If It Bleeds, and Holly, but that’s all I can handle of that series. I just don’t think Holly can carry multiple books as a character, and I have to admit that King’s writing has lost a lot of its magic.

Looking forward to Talisman 3 though!

lol. I think re-reads later in life change really change perceptions of King’s work especially. I was 13 when I read Tommyknockers and was like THIS IS INSANE I LOVE IT; when I read it again a few years ago it was a hot mess 🤷‍♂️

I just really struggled with Insomnia. I love King’s slice of life books, but 400 pages of Ralph wandering around Derry unable to sleep pushed that to its limits. The final third was great but I’m not sure it made up for the slog to get there.
