Many of my colleagues try to have an "ethical AI policy", but I have a strict no AI policy in my classes and when I talk about it I always ask my students "Think about why tech oligarchs are so invested in having you rely on their programs do your thinking for you..."

Usually whenever you bring up the environmental, neurological, or psychological ramifications of using AI they completely ignore it. Or say something like "well they said the same thing about calculators when they came out." Like okay Theodore that's not the same thing but go off.
Oh completely! I'm not saying those people are correct, but they're just coming from a place where they're trying to clamor for relevance without knowing or caring to understand the ramifications of their actions.
Usually the Finance/Business people are for it. Earth Science/Psychology/Sociology are against. Which says a lot π. Fundamentally it comes down to people wanting to seem ahead of the curve and being able to profit off of it while it's hot.
I work at a university, and there have been several faculty-wide conversations about AI and it gets HEATED. It's a lot of (mostly middle aged) people who are afraid that if they oppose it, and it prevails as a technology they'll seem foolish and alarmist so they try to cautiously embrace it.
That's a great redirect! You could also offer to teach them a slang word or something at the end of class is everyone behaves as an incentive.
Teacher here! I would say if you teach him to say it in Cantonese you're giving him (and the rest of the class) license to say it and setting a precedent. Is there a more productive or challenging phrase that is still silly and has a potentially more appropriate meaning?
My illiteracy aside, this is so beautiful!
I first read this as "Breaking Dawn PI" (like private investigator) and was trying to figure out if this was some of detective AU or if it was a story from the perspective of a PI sent to investigate what was going on with Bella during "Breaking Dawn" π
You need to cleanse your palate by listening to "Hey Sis, It's Christmas" on repeat for at least a half hour.
Not to mention, with his influence and astronomical budget, so much of the costuming looks incredibly cheap. Also at the risk of being pedantic on the internet, the men get turned into pigs ππ½
While I think the people who are upset over the lack of historical accuracy, especially in regards to Bronze Age aesthetics, have set themselves up for disappointment, Nolan doesn't really seem to have a cohesive or interesting view for this world, be it historic or fantastic.
Absolutely! I also teach art at a university and I am shocked by the amount of students who have no artistic reference points, be they contemporary or historic. I feel like so much of the art-making process is getting inspired and excited about what other artists are doing and have done.
Maybe it's the mythology nerd in me, but I think Benoit Blanc would do VERY well in Ancient Rome.
I think that's the reason "Jason and the Argonauts" is such a classic. It's kind of unserious in terms of its overall tone and focuses a lot on artistry and the joy of the genre. It seems like Nolan had a hard time "figuring out" the subject matter and it shows.
The lighting and color palette are so beautiful!
As a profound lover of the '05 version I think it's all about what you're looking for. If you want something that's more accurate to the novel and time period in general, BBC is the only choice. If you're looking for VIBES and don't mind a more abridged modern twist, then it's '05.
After two long years I have finally set up my INPRNT account. Check it out if you like Greek Mythology and supporting working artists. www.inprnt.com/gallery/bucc...
It's also worth mentioning that chitons are a unisex garment that can be short or long. The distinction of a chiton is based on how it is wrapped around the body.
The Erinyes were frequently depicted in shorter dresses in artwork. My guess is, the Ancient Greeks thought of them as huntresses of people rather than animals.
It's so underrated! π©
Jasmine iced tea with cheese foam, a light balance of salty and sweet.
I seem to remember them as dog-headed, and indeed there is evidence that they were depicted as such (though not in Ancient Greece), but I can't find much evidence of that. Still looks cool though and a nice way to further distinguish them from the Gorgons
The Erinyes (aka. The Furies) for Day 27 of @classicstober.bsky.social
bluesky would only let me upload four images. I also drew Charon.
I've got one more @classicstober.bsky.social piece left in me before the month is out, but here are some smaller drawings I did of this year's prompts: Hermes Psychopompos, Hypnos, a Lampad, and Thanatos
