🔥 Extreme heat is already hitting food systems.
Farmers can’t work. Livestock are stressed. Yields are falling.
We need more diverse, resilient food systems – and to phase out fossil fuels.

Happy 🌍 #EarthDay!
Forest sounds aren’t just relaxing — they’re good for us 🌲🎧
Our new research finds that brief recordings of local forest soundscapes boost wellbeing more than exotic ones.
Biodiversity & familiarity both matter.

Research, led by Ana Romero & Kevin Rozario in @alettabonn.bsky.social's lab, finds soundscape of local forests have greater wellbeing benefits than far away forest soundscapes.
Also shows perceived biodiversity is a driver of well-being, consistent w/ previous work

BBC News have got in contact with us for a story they are producing on the impact on a person’s mental health if they live near/next to a construction site. This is particularly in relation to noise.
If you are an expert and want to speak to the BBC - DM us or @melissamarselle.bsky.social

Out of 139 included papers, only six studies directly compared different #bluespace types within the same study. Most studies compared blue spaces to urban or a #greenspace environments, rather than other blue spaces.
Lots of research gaps left to address in #bluespaces!
Thrilled to share our new #EnvironmentalResearch article!
Our review investigates the mental health and wellbeing benefits associated with specific blue space types (e.g. coast, river) & characteristics (e.g. sounds).

“The effort to quiet Paris complements the wider campaign to make Paris greener, cleaner & less car-dependent, which include vehicle restrictions in the center, crackdowns on polluting vehicles, & an ambitious expansion of bike networks. Those have cut the city’s average noise level by 2 decibels.”

Dense development is not the enemy of green spaces in the city; it is a prerequisite for them. And vice versa.
Fly over Berlin with Google Earth, one of the densest and greenest cities in Europe.
Yes! Thanks Beth!
