Switched from chunky snow shoes to smooth summer sneakers.

Driving my own car again after zipping around in mom's S-Line A1 always feels like I'm driving an oil tanker.

And why does the steering feel like it's set in concrete?

Is my car so ashamed of having power steering?

Yep! I mentioned that in the alt text. :D But I still somehow prefer his English voice, even if not by a huge margin.

A blocked spout. This would normally mean a very tedious disassembly that I'm in no mood for. As always, I'll just consult my box of questionable hoses to find the perfect one to blow into the spout and successfully break up the blockage, followed by a round of flushing with cleaning agent.

Screenshot of the preview banner for Balto on German Amazon, which clearly doesn't show us any Balto, just an exasperated Steele. This surely didn't bait me to spend 4€ on it. And then, realizing that it's only in German, I had to ask a dear friend of mine to perhaps send me an English copy of the film, as I wanted to see it in its original language. Well worth the effort, and thanks again to Firewulf.

It also amuses me to no end that the person choosing the banner image for the movie on Amazon also went, "Who cares about the protagonist? This is what you're really here for, right?"

Flat color portrait of Steele, the antagonist from the 1995 animated film Balto, drawn by Mithmeoi, looking towards the viewer with a confident grin. I absolutely loved the voice acting in the original English version, while the German dub has him voiced by the same guy who also voiced Scar. Can't go wrong with sexy villain voices! I do believe that he knows where all the bones are buried...

Finally, more than 30 years after its release and before my stricken body rattled to 40, I watched Balto in its entirety. I now feel less self-conscious about all my recent commishes by the amazing @mithmeoi.bsky.social

And while Steele may be very one-dimensional, he has such a damn sexy voice...

Not to mention that song by Die Prinzen containing "Lacklederstiefel von der Hacke bis zur Hüfte" or the local all-female "Blaskapelle" who then "blasen mir jetzt ein Geburtstagslied". Such introspective and age-appropriate lyrics indeed.

Photo of the rear of the second Tigerenten Club CD, showing the track list that isn't questionable at all in any way. Surely, this would even pass the censors of Gilead, I mean, the US.

Funner fact: The second 1997 iteration had child-appropriate songs like Verpiss' Dich ("Piss off!") and Oh Shit-Frau Schmidt, which is about a guy failing abysmally in school, then getting caught by his teacher (Mrs. Schmidt) while having sex with her daughter. Oh, 90s, you crazy time you.

My fave part is how they put Oh Shit, Frau Schmidt on the second CD. x) Like, yeah, that's totally kids' stuff!

But weren't there several "regular" ones on there that one would consider original? Or do you mean songs that were explicitly made for the show? I'm slightly confused here. D:

What does original mean in this case? x)

Photo of the first Tigerenten Club CD from 1996, which 9-year-old me loved a lot back in the day. Many happy memories are linked to these times.

Fun fact: Because this song was on the first Tigerenten Club CD in 1996, it ingrained itself in my brain so deeply that it became the "right" version of Lemon Tree to me. I was always disappointed that radio stations would only play the "wrong", slow, sad version.

Photo of my hand holding a paper cup of questionable rest area coffee. It was pretty mediocre, but what do you expect from a vending machine next to the public restroom?

Driving for twelve hours straight, powered by questionable liquids.

Then switching cars so mom can have the summer tires put on mine while I head onwards to my own place in her car. After a quick pit stop at Burger King.

I'm knackered. x_x But also back home.

Photo of the station Lehel tér on the blue line, where we went to get produce at the Lehel market, which is my least favourite of our usually visited markets. Everything is dirty, dingy, and full of weirdos. Lángos was less than half of what it costs at the market near my place, but it was also worse, and I didn't finish it.

Today was the last day of roaming around and judgmentally staring at parliament over pancakes and coffee. Packing my stuff for another leisurely 11-12 hour drive back to DANGEROUS Germany full of migrants. Let's hope I'll survive leaving behind all this SAFETY that Hungary is so full of...

In fact, it's so safe here that I never leave my car parked on the street, as two of our cars had been stolen here in the past, along with two unsuccessful attempts that left our cars undrivable. So safe.

Hungarians like to go on about how safe it is here because there are no migrants. I guess that's why in dangerous Germany, I have one regular lock on my door, while my Budapest apartment has four different locks, and an alarm system. I'm really glad it's so super safe here.

Photo of a double set of Tatra T5C5K2 motorcars at the Kamaraerdö terminus of line 41. As you may have guessed from the elaborate layout, this station was once intended for higher traffic, and indeed, the line used to continue behind me, beyond the city limits, making it more of a suburban railway line (HÉV) than a pure tram. I'm pretty sure that this section would have been axed as well, were it not for new housing developments nearby.

Did you know that you can board a tram in the middle of the city, right across the parliament building, and then just ride it all the way to the city limits at nowhere in particular?

Well, now you do!

Better than any of those dumb tourist buses.

Getting a day pass and aimlessly riding around on public transit is my jam when I'm here, a childhood pastime. I also love how vehicles here have windows that open properly. Even secondhand German trams from Hannover were retrofitted this way.

Photo of a hand holding a to go coffee cup in a station of the Földalatti, with a train departing from the opposite platform. During the large scale renovations in the 90s, they unearthed one of the old support pillars in a side room, realizing that they were originally not painted in the dark grey/green like you see in all other stations. It was decided to paint them in this original scheme in this one station, with a lighter tone and gold accents on the ornate top part.

More coffee and public transport today.

Come, sit with me, and I'll explain why this particular station has pillars of a different color than all other stations on this line!
