My latest for Streetsblog! The recent DOT announcement that it is going to redesign Grand Army Plaza is excellent news. Now, with the leadership of Mayor Mamdani and Commissioner Mike Flynn, there's an opportunity to be even bolder. Let's not miss the moment.

"We must look ahead to the changes likely to occur in Brooklyn and across the city over the next 20 years and plan accordingly," writes @brooklynspoke.bsky.social.

Please, please get rid of the super manipulative music!
So true. As a former children's book author and editor, I got so tired of hearing my jobs must be "so fun!" Sometimes, but mostly it's work! Writing for young people is harder. If you talk down to them, they will drop you like a stone. It's harder to write clearly for a kid than to BS adult readers.
If there are any Democrats who are thinking of running for the presidency on 2028 on anything less than a clear agenda of widespread prosecution for this administration's corruption and fundamental structural changes to ensure it can't happen again, they should just stop right there.
Todd Lyons led a secret police force for Trump where masked agents attacked our own American streets, violated Constitutional rights, and shot our own citizens.
We’ll hold you accountable too.
Arial is the sans serif font recommended most often, but I've seen CS recommended as well. All the same, these recs are not based on evidence. But whatever works for you is fine for you! (Or any person, not literally "you.")
I don't think Comic Sans was designed as a font for dyslexics.
The Dyslexie font is not actually easier for ppl with dysl to read: what helps with any font is expanded letter spacing.
Dyslexie design is based on wrong ideas about dysl. It's a sound processing disorder, not rel to vision. 🙂
Sing it with me, "The Secretary of Defense is a religious fanatic!"

The revolution starts here
Where you work and where you play
Where you lay your money down
The revolution starts now.
France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.
Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars
The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.
Why aren't we doing this?
This is absolutely what we should be doing.
As wealth concentrates, so does power — the power to influence elections, shape policy, tilt markets and define the terms of public debate.
Taxing billionaires is not radical.
What is radical is allowing a system where extreme wealth exists alongside widespread hardship.
Dan Goldman voted for warrantless wiretaps. He has repeatedly enabled the federal government’s expansive use of surveillance powers.
I will never play fast and loose with your civil liberties. I’ve always stood up for constitutional privacy rights and always will.
On Yom HaShoah, we pause to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Nazis’ systematic program of mass murder, along with the millions of others murdered by the Hitler regime. We remember the scale of this horror, and the systems of hatred and dehumanization that made it possible — and that still echo in our world today. In New York City, home to more Holocaust survivors than anywhere else in this country, that memory lives among us and shapes who we are. The resilience of survivors is woven into the very fabric of this city, and it calls on all of us to act with courage and clarity in the face of injustice. Today, as antisemitism rises once more, we are reminded that remembrance alone is not enough. We must confront hate wherever it appears. As we light the yahrzeit candle, let us come together to protect its fragile flame — and shield it from the cold winds of hate and cruelty. “Never again” is a promise. And it is one we must fight to keep.
FUCKING LEAVE SUBSTACK
NO SHIT THEY SUPPORT NAZIS
IF YOU BIG PUBS LEFT SUBSTACK
THEY WOULD HAVE LESS $$ FFS
a lot of us already made the leap because we believe that fighting fascism is more important than doing the easy thing and complaining about it
hey support NAZI-FREE liberatory writing:
Together, we are telling a new story of our city. New York belongs to all who live in it, not just a privileged few.
And if we succeed here, surely it can be done elsewhere.
Today, I received a notification of another death in ICE custody. That’s 47 deaths during Trump’s second term.
We must stand up and demand real accountability — ICE has a duty to provide care to those in their custody.
This kind of thing at Substack (including their Nazi problem and trans hate problem) are why my newsletter is at Ghost.org and always has been. Andrew Tate is a spectacularly vile human being accused of numerous violent crimes against women and hugely corrosive for young male minds.
Orban has lost. What a great day! (Unlike some sundowning clowns we know, he has admitted he lost, too.)

ultimately it’s two sides of an equation: It’s a misunderstanding of the dynamics of power and leverage and also a misunderstanding of the mechanisms we have for accountability in instances like this, via systems of media and justice that are not built to protect those with less power.
there are so many consequences of everyday people not really understanding how journalism works and people on here thinking there was some sort of massive media coverup of Eric Swalwell being a monster fundamentally is rooted in total misunderstanding of what real reporting requires.
It’s been a dark week. Our president is mentally and morally deranged. But the truth is we put him there.
In this moment, Americans need to face hard truths. And that’s what Jimmy Carter tried to offer back in 1979. Maybe this time, we’ll listen. My latest:

Thank you, Ally and Adam. This takes courage. I know this as a survivor. I believe these women’s allegations because they’re credible.
To those who’d DARVO the women — please read the articles, and research “Deny, Attack, then Reverse the Victim and Offender roles. Just don’t do it!!
I had the same initial hesitation, but read any of the stories, and it’s pretty impossible to disbelieve. Multiple pulbications, lots of details, campaign staff believe it so they are quitting.
Filing charges means risking being identified personally (see Epstein files) and that's the end of your sane life. Women pay a huge price for coming forward. Misogyny is not a Republican-built conspiracy theory -- it is everywhere.
No one accused Franken of rape.
Like, my parents do weekly anti-ICE protests and I am not the MAGA whisperer, not that any of my friends are Trump voters, but like, the "we" here is men. And yeah, you fuckers need to get off computers and do the work unless you are the one old man at every No Kings with the cone hat & sandals.
