Honestly, the going concern value of Spirit is probably less than $500M so there's a realm where they are setting this up to later merge off the airline and convert the $500M into shares of another airline

If they do it for Spirit, I can expect JetBlue and Frontier to be next in line. And not long after those, potentially other airlines

That would really suck, but to some extent, there may be opportunities for a D governor to push back against a R agenda that harms Iowa.

Still, in NC having a D governor allows us to implement policies that are executive branch driven. And if for whatever reason they don't get a supermajority, a governor's veto could not be overridden.

Here's a fun aviation angle. Spirit may live to fight another day thanks to a federal bail out (or someone willing to buy then at a major discount).

The governor margin is crazy, this may put the state in the likely D category as opposed to the toss-up or lean D I had initially considered.

Unironically, higher gas prices are going to be good for consumer behavior changes. This can lead to a resurgence of public transit ridership, more biking/walking and improved city infrastructure. People will advocate for better/cleaner/safer infrastructure and that will benefit everyone.

I'll say, when AA went into C11 way back when, I said "UA or US will buy them" and my dad/his stockbroker reacted the same way I'm reacting to this, so I won't say it's impossible.

Someone said it's meant to make the JetBlue merger look sane by comparison. It's not a terrible strategy, but I don't think it will fly with some state AGs.
