Itβs showtime!
And a final nit on Slack's latest UI change for threads:
- Pop out windows for threads: useful to extract context while working
- Thread sidebar that disappears when you change channels: this is awful. Often I need that context when going to other channels and I don't want to popout something π
What I'd really love to see is the best of both worlds here:
- Give me threads as a hierarchy under the slack channel that is collapsible
- Give me the "All Threads" view in slack to rediscover lost threads
- Continue having custom config of notifications for all threads (and unsubscribe capability)
As opposed to something like Discord which has moved to a model of having threads show up as children under a channel in the hierarchy.
I think Discord's solution is significantly better for quickly finding threads about a specific topic. The drawback is it clogs your channel hierarchy over time.
So one trend it corporate chat applications that seems to be a struggle is how to do threaded conversations. The biggest challenge I've seen over time is related to finding a threaded conversation. It seems tools like Slack are very opinionated about creating a new channel instead of a thread.
Remembering why I set this up - so I could occasionally rage post about tech products and features I want to see. Also because I can't seem to trust twitter's UX anymore... π€£
I've long had super fucking problems with the term AI when it's "okay maybe this will be AI some day." It's like calling a steam engine a jet turbine because somebody will figure out that chain of innovations someday.
Bsky app π
