As Mark Graham says in this excellent article by WIRED , it's ironic that journalists depend upon the Internet Archive for their research and yet their own publishers are blocking essential archiving routines of their own websites [β¦]
Listening live to Chris Bourg on the 25th Anniversary celebration of MIT OpenCourseWare and she gave a great shout out of support to the 2022 OSTP Public Access Policy. She said that more than 60% of MIT scholars are in compliance with federal public access policies, which is incredible :) [β¦]

The top part of the Moon is illuminated. The gray cratered surface stands out against the blackness of space. The Earth appears in the far distance as an upside-down crescent moon shape. There is some lens flare in the top part and center of the image. Credit: NASA

I thought when I saw this - wow, a Hopper I'm unfamiliar with.
Today would be a good day for Congress to pass a law implementing no first use doctrine.
This is gonna be weird. πͺ

The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a "whole civilization" β all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it.
This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.
The "government-wide" ban on journal subscription and article processing charges in the President's Budget Request is wild - there's lots of weasel words so we'll have to wait to see what this means in practice [β¦]

There are certainly corporeal, albeit mysterious, ways to end up unexpectedly at a Waffle House. this is some fantastic reporting:

Another big surprise contained in today's budget proposal: A government wide ban on using federal funds for "expensive" scientific publishing.
This shows the issue is a βbroader conversation happening across the governmentβ beyond just the NIH, says @csmarcum.bsky.social.

To be clear - in 2024 and 2025, we able to get about $80M for NCSES. That was reduced to $60M in 2026 (which was considered a win). Now at $44M, that's a non-trivial cut for the stats agency. NCSES was the largest account on my Desk. NSDS expires in Sept. so some of the cuts may reflect that too
Overview of changes in NSF funding proposed by the FY 2027 President's Budget Request. Most programs are significantly cut. OMB did not give numbers for STEM and NCSES, so the numbers appear to be increases (they are not).
Giving folks a sense of what the cuts to NSF funding in the 2027 President's Budget Request actually looks like. Note the significant cuts across domains--even to research security! STEM and NCSES aren't captured for prior years, so they appear to be cuts, even though they are not.
