Disagree. Clinton would have won if she’d been the Dem nominee in 2008; 2016 was weird w the Comey letter; & Harris ran 10 points ahead of Biden’s approval in 2024. The fundamentals don’t show blanket rejection of women.

Creating martyrs is a horrible idea.

Have to disagree. Mob justice leads to a retaliatory cycle and institutions being even weaker.

Caveat: the “we” who imprison must be professional prosecutors & a jury of the accused’s peers. No mob justice. (The post basically says this, of course.)

Elite higher ed has many problems, but the key factor driving down trust is political. Look at the graph - backlash against costs, admissions, etc. can't explain the changes we see. We should still reform our institutions and refocus on our core mission, but blindly blaming ourselves is abuser logic

Good! Bring in a Communist, an anarchist, faculty from the Global South, and maybe a pantheist. (Harvard has conservative faculty already.)

History is a contest, a struggle, not an established, unchanging narrative. It's up to historians to make sure we follow more accurate, reliable reporters like Lawfare.

Counterpoint: "The Senators ordered his books to be burned...; but copies remained, hidden & afterwards published: a fact which moves us... to deride the folly of those who believe that by an act of despotism... there can be extinguished also the memory of a succeeding age" (Tacitus, Annals 4.35).

Which is why Trump needs some kind of undeniable, unspinnable, untransferable defeat to go down.

NC is seat 48 for Dems, ahead of IA, OH, AK, even ME. Cooper’s a political rock star.

South Carolina might move next. Graham is unpopular and Annie Andrews is a strong candidate.

No, because minimum wage won’t be salient with voters. But 52 or 53 is certainly possible. What’s the next most likely pickup after AK, OH, IA? Montana? South Carolina?

But also, Matthew 5.11-12 might be relevant.

Why’d you cover it up so long when you knew about the harassment, Mr. Daren?

LOL. Only Dem candidate in my lifetime who won a contested SC primary but lost the nomination was John Edwards.

The thought experiment isn’t really about systematic counterfactuals. It‘s about invoking sexism. That’s it.

LOL! Based on what evidence?
And to be sure: not sure campaigning with Cheney was a wise move for Harris. But that’s a separate issue.
