I cannot stress enough that libraries need to be defended. Public. Academic. School. Fight for them. USE them & make it known that you're using them.

As a librarian who lost the fight at their institution & was forced to toss 120,000 books because "no one reads books anymore," I am begging you.

My first drafts are usually pretty polished, prose-wise anyways. The rewrite and revision is for continuity, plot and sentence tightening, and general course correction of character motivations and all that jazz.

Everyone writes differently. Let the first draft be your unrestrained summer fun 🫶

I don't like "Your first draft will be shitty" as advice, because it's a really negative framing.

I prefer, "You have the freedom to be messy creating your first draft."

Anyone crafter knows what their room looks like mid-creation. Writers should be as free to be as exhuberent and messy.
