Just make sure you do have alternate contact details for people you want to stay in touch with when you do the full deletion - I accidentally missed a few, thinking I had another way to contact them

I did it in stages. There’s an option for deactivating your account without deleting which means you still have Messenger - you don’t get updates on what people are up to but you can still contact them. After about six months I realised I didn’t miss it and deleted entirely
