Finding out they only stopped making them with Mercury in 2009 is pretty fucked up!

Changed my thermostat today and realized the old Honeywell unit has Mercury in it. Luckily I have a safe place to dispose of it at work - but imagine how much of that shit ended up in landfills over the years. Picturing the scale of hazardous waste discarded around us is fuckin bleak
My work friend and I bond over our pro-Palestine views. I've told him that he should support the DPRK & Cuba because they support Palestine, and he still didn't put together that I'm a communist. I love my naive non-political friends
I need this but I think my wife will kill me if I buy it
My union has requested members to suggest anything we may want to negotiate for on our next collective agreement. Is there anything beyond the obvious I can bring up here?
If I could pass one law, I'd make it illegal to support the Boston Bruins in Montreal and force the cops to waste all their resources raiding the homes of known Boston fans, confiscating their Bruins merch, etc
Graffiti in Italian saying "death to fascism, liberty for the people"
Not gonna lie I was happy to see this on the streets in Italy today
I don't know how anyone has the time to do that. I do one big grocery run every Sunday and finding the deals at the one budget grocery store I go to is enough work
Yet another example of the bourgeoisie using their capital to siphon wealth from the working class directly into their portfolios where it's reinvested to further exploit workers
Saw a post where someone pointed out their REIT landlord raised the parking fee by $50/month. Based on the REIT's dividend, you'd need $15k invested to make that $50.
Probably, but from what I see a lot of these stores are extremely understaffed so I don't know if it would be worthwhile in practice
They put half the stuff you want on sale at one store and half at the other, forcing you to run around town to all the stores to save money. It's fucking absurd
My favourite ice cream at two grocery stores which are owned by the same company:
Super C (cheap grocery store): $4.88 regular price
Metro (bourgeois grocery store): $7.29 regular price, $5.88 on sale
๐งต Many in the DPRK are devoting their all to the sacred patriotic duty of creating new forests and conserving the environment with a righteous desire to build up their homeland into a green socialist paradise covered in thick woods and flowers. Among them is comrade Han Sun Hye.
I agree
Endless jokes about poverty and bad credit scores. It's just welfare queen Reaganism for car guys
There's definitely a racist dogwhistle vibe I get from Nissan Altima meme pages - as well as many people who joke about shitty cars
I have 0 blocked accounts here so I gotta say it's a way more relaxing experience to scroll BkueSky
We need discipline and organization first and foremost, not micro parties for each and every tendency who all hate each other so much they can't even organize a counter-protest
I'm envious that American socialists are organized enough to have something like DSA. I totally understand joining on a purely tactical level as a Marxist. Here in Canada we have no such option. What use is a communist party if it's full of sex pests?
I hope this UAW strike sets an example for union leadership. Shawn Fain seems to be the right leader for them
There isn't really much clout to be gained by supporting north Korea
Becoming a staunch supporter of the DPRK is a one-way trip. All my mutuals who have been making DPRK-related content have been unwavering in their support for Juche
There's no need to loudly proclaim your ideology. I spend a lot more time listening to people these days and from there I can decide whether I should bother opening up and sharing some history & theory
I can't emphasize enough how silly I feel looking back on my time as a new communist a few years ago. Just arguing constantly with whoever would engage. I think I've gotten a lot better at holding my tongue and choosing when and how to talk politics.
I had a wonderful weekend at the cottage. Sometimes I need a few days without signal to really relax
