Windows 7 MS Paint support seems like it was at most *usable* a year ago, but probably not super pleasant.

If you're willing to try Krita, it's in a league of its own when it comes to maturity, features, community, development activity, etc. But

Once you've got that, it's not the sort of thing you need a guide for. It basically just works. When something doesn't work, the first Google result is usually totally sufficient to fix a problem.
