I think more games that want to do game-based April Fool's jokes should consider doing idle/clicker jokes. The threshold isn't bad, it's not overdone, you can reuse assets, and you can use it to highlight funny things about your own game design.

A good rule of thumb for April Fool's Day is to avoid anything that people would legitimately be excited about. Why disappoint your fans with cool ideas you'll never execute on?
