Morning! I got accepted for an ARC, which I'm starting today. Pretty excited by it all.
Absolutely love this! Great memory to have!
Ahh nice! I wanted to get onto this sooner rather than later as I'd heard such great things about this adaptation and the Murnau silent movie, which I really enjoyed.
A bald man with pointed ears and teeth holding a woman
Is it just me that finds the Dracula/Nosferatu story a comforting watch?
Now onto my 7th/8th adaptation of the story...

Yep definitely! Much needed tbh
Hot Fuzz - heart Grand Budapest Hotel - heart Monty Python - 3.5 stars Rebecca - 4.5 stars
Happy #LetterboxdFriday!
A couple of comfort rewatches, silliness from Monty Python and a pretty faithful Hitchcock adaptation.

A man on a hill looking down at an army
By Blood, By Salt by J.L. Odom
Undoubtedly an extremely well written political and military self-pub fantasy that deals with colonialism and othering. It perhaps leaned too much on varying political machinations over everything else that could have been explored in the world.

Thanks! I'm almost done with the Priest's Tale and absolutely love it so far!

Not gonna lie, the last couple of weeks have been tough, so haven't been able to watch anything like what I've wanted to...
A horse and cart on a beach with the sun setting
Seascraper by Benjamin Wood
A gentle, atmospheric story of a man trawling the beach to sell shrimp. It packs so much in, in a short space of time, but the main one of duty vs passion absolutely made it for me. Tom is such an an honest and endearing character.

A celtic circle with a tree in the middle and Fire in a line at the bottom.
Dreams Of Fire by Shauna Lawless
An excellent prequel novella to the Gael Song series. We learn more about the rival factions and instantly hooked into the characters lives. It tackles themes of sisterhood, freedom and being at peace with one's own mortality.

A castle on some rocks with the sea bashing into it and a ship attempting to get away.
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
A complex revenge story that was rich in characterisation and a good feel for the time period. I found the second third a bit of a struggle, as the events laid out were far too long winded in spite of them being important to the story.

Morning! I'm on the final stretch of the Count of Monte Cristo, so will be done in the next few days.
A skeleton in dungarees and a Straw hat with a scythe leaning against a tree in the middle of a corn field
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
Pratchett once again delivers a really poignant and important message amongst the chaos and hilarity of Discworld. It's almost top tier stuff, but the chaotic side plot felt like a tacked on element, rather than seemingly a natural part of the story.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday!
Two pretty unhinged film and one is a melancholic look at the death of a town and how the citizens fall with it.
Yep, certainly are!
Morning! I'm a little over halfway through the Count of Monte Cristo and needed a little break and so I'm around two thirds through Reaper Man by Pratchett.
A white background with images of six people across the top and a row of shops.
The film excellently portrays the decay of a small town in Texas and the people wrapped up in it. It's a coming of age story, as our main characters are going through high school and contend with their rivalries and friendships. The whole film is seeped in melancholy, as they navigate their lives.

Unfortunately Dirty Harry didn't do a massive lot for me. I don't know whether it's because I'm just not keen on Clint Eastwood...
Shaft - 3 stars A Clockwork Orange - 4 stars Dirty Harry - 3 stars Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere - 2.5 stars
Happy #LetterboxdFriday!
By all accounts, a pretty mid watching week...
A black triangle on a white background. A man in a bowler hat is coming through holding a knife.
Ultra violent, disturbing, distressing and incredibly made. It questions whether men are inherently evil and if they can change and whether control can be just as violent. The juxtaposition of the popping colours with such dark material is incredible.

A black cover with gates opening to red
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
I loved the slow, atmospheric, claustrophobic, tension building first half and then the reveal around halfway just took this to a whole new level. Rebecca's presence engulfs everything and whilst you don't know her, you do at the same time. Masterful.
