Heyyyy science peeps. The Valedictorian Project is on the hunt for mentors to support high-achieving students from urban public high schools. I've mentored a student for the past couple of years: minimal time, virtual, huge impact. Now more than ever, young scientists need us. tvpconnect.org/signup

When I heard the mom of a trans girl say the night her daughter came out to her was the first time she'd ever seen her child happy, I knew it was a story I needed to share.
These are the stories the public isn't hearing. An honor to get to report on 3 family's journeys for @teenvogue.com.
Please repost! Great role if someone needs a soft landing into a supportive, collaborative, and very productive team.
Our team has an opening for a contract role for a research scientist with a very strong data science background. Please be a SQL wizard with great data visualization skills! We're a highly collaborative team using NLP/ML to analyze data from 11+ million conversations. Join us! tinyurl.com/5t2pme7h

Come work with me on a new NIMH-funded R01 looking at stress-related markers in the prediction of risk for depression in adolescence! We use fMRI, EMA, and smartwatch technology. For more details check out cdasr.mclean.harvard.edu/wp-content/u...

I know not everyone can keep up with all the grant terminations, but it’s important to know what we’re losing so I’ll try to compile them here.
First is a study on intimate partner violence with perinatal women (note: the #1 cause of death during pregnancy is homicide)

In Massachusetts, at Logan airport, immigration thugs stripped an innocent man naked, tortured him, and pressured him to give up his green card.
Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world.
Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
In case it helps: it's okay to re-calibrate expectations, given the current reality.
I was getting frustrated with myself because, over the past month, I've gotten behind on the things I planned to get done.
Each day, I start with plans, then some element of the chaos throws a wrench in them. 1/
Wow. Trump has fired the federal Veterans Affairs staff running the Veterans Crisis Hotline. This will have a major impact here in North Carolina.
I have no words.
They want to remove support for disabled students—learning disabilities, behavior problems, developmental delays, speech therapy, accommodations for ADHD, deaf/HoH people, blind and low vision people.
Outrageous, disgusting, barbarian.
What are you doing this week to resist?

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.
I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.
They purged the YRBS?! That dataset is basic but critical information about what is going on with kids and adolescents in this country. We are losing our ability to do fundamental public health related work.
1. Breaking News: Donald Trump has signed an executive order targeting trans youth and teachers in schools who teach for them.
It goes after "social transition" and threatens arrests.
I will go through line by line, as I have the last 3 nights.

I hate living in a timeline when we've alienated our society from the absolute wonder and joy that is science. No group or thing in society is perfect but my whole life is full of scientists doing basically modern day miracles all the time to help make our lives better. I love you all for it
And the funding announcement for diversity supplements now has been updated to expire today. Supplements are so important to the careers of junior scientists. This is crushing for post docs and early career faculty

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.
I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
We are here.
We are strong.
We are fighting back.

So upsetting: "we discovered that 7–10-year-old males and females reported higher rates of suicidal ideation (∼26%) than any other demographic group except 15–16-year-old females (∼27%). This trend was consistent across all racial and ethnic subgroups." #SuicidePrevention #SocialWork

Thanks for putting this together!
this is irresponsible and wreckless. therapy requires care, compassion, sympathy, and being able to listen and relate with the person. AI can do none of that. people's lives are on the line, and bad therapy can cause much more harm than no therapy
