This is what it's like to be a parent in America. You're working to support your family, but then you have to work to protect your family b/c there is no help to ensure the safety of your children and many times the govt ends up supporting things that threaten your kids.
It's fucking exhausting.

The fact of the matter is that this is a systemic "feature" of our government. A government that systematically chooses to do nothing when children are slaughtered by gun violence in their schools or extreme weather events at their camps. Oh except prayer, which studies show does...fuck all.
Now is not the time for "this is what they voted for." Families have suffered loss and saying things like that are hurtful. People make a lot of stupid decisions, but as a parent I would never want to put my kids in danger and I assume these parents would want to put their kids in danger either.
I'm so infuriated that children have died in Texas because of silicon valley tech bro bullshit libertarianism like Retire All Government Employees (RAGE) from Curtis Yarvin. Which was then encapsulated in Project 2025, then executed by DOGE. They've had real world consequences. Fatal ones.
Man*t*zoukas π
I like that "Taskmaster" is trending on Bluesky every Thursday/Friday. π If you haven't watched it yet, it's so much fun. For the first time the show has an American as a contestant. Jason Manzoukas brings an element of delightful chaos to the show that I'm very much here for.
The petition to revoke ICEβs permit for their Portland building is almost at 15k signatures! Just about 50 signatures away. Have you signed it yet?
Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with an e EPaper HAT display. The display has (from left to right, top to bottom, row by row): A full WiFi icon, the word Bjorn, and a usb symbol. A target icon with β29β next to it representing hosts, a Ethernet jack icon with the number β43β representing found open ports, a broken shield icon with a β0β representing vulnerabilities detected. A unlocked lock icon with the number β0β representing cracked credentials, a face of a zombie with the number β0β next to it representing zombified machines, and a stack of disk platters (like a database icon) with the number β0β next to it representing stolen files. A house with horns and the text βIDLEβ. A message stating βEver seen a bot do a backflip? Me neither.β A coin with the number β235β, the text βLVLβ with the number β19β, crossed axes with the number β16β, and a network icon with the number β21β, and in the center of all of it is a cartoon Viking with a big beard and beady eyes, with a helmet with the left horn pointing up and the right pointing down, holding a bottle.
I built a Bjorn! Heβs trying hard to find insecurities in my network.
Maybe Iβll throw out a Postgres instance with a weak password to see if Bjorn will find it.
This is why when Democrats put their faith in law, I know we're truly doomed. Oregon law is that LEOs aren't supposed to be doing this, but who's stopping them? What's the consequences? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Laws are weaponized against us but don't protect us. We protect us.
Iβm pretty sure the only reason theyβre changing the parents (aside from racism) is because they canβt charge the deceased child. SUVs are so dangerous to pedestrians especially children and really should require a separate license to drive.
If you don't think this is coming for you, look at Portland 2020 when the same types of people showed up and tear gassed the shit out of us. The difference is now that the courts have given them air cover, and nobody has faced any consequences for anything in 2020.

3 day weekends are less fun when I have the destructive force of my boys and their friends.
Good news, I have a Planka chore board to get back on track. π

Working with Rust lately has taught me that I find myself more concerned with rapid prototyping and speed of delivery over correctness in my projects.
Iβm finding Typescript and Go to be a good combo for this.
I really want to figure out how to do more Rust but I think itβs just not time yet.
Okay, definitely a good video to get you fired up going into a Memorial Day weekend.

About Enshitification, obviously.
Tech would be great if not for all the capitalism
Last Week Tonight. Thatβs all I watch on HBO nowadays
A poster reading: βLet this radicalize you rather than lead you to despair.β On a red wall.
This is my view of everything now, especially tech.
Happy Mothers Day to every mom out there doing their best
Got my tickets for @hackboat.org. 2025 is going to be security focused for me, the nautical nature is an homage to my Kubernetes roots. π’
Dark-eyed junco baby looking up with its eyes closed. Itβs sitting on a tattered dish cloth. Its color is dark with brown and has pink legs. It has a yellow beak. It sits next to dried mealworms.

My cat took a baby bird out of its nest. Iβm trying to take care of it. Hereβs a dark-eyed junco baby that depends on me now.

Look deep in your neighborhoods and communities. There are groups who are working hard to keep everyone safe. Mutual aid networks are there.
If you can't find mutual aid networks, time to roll up your sleeves.
I feel this deep in my bones. For me it's the fire I have to build technology and offer it for free to better humankind.
I still believe in a future where knowledge saves us. That future can't be monetized. When you ask the question: "How can we make money on this?" It's a race to the bottom.
Yet another reason building public services on capitalism is fraught with failure.

Experimenting with Qwen3 on ollama. I decided to talk to it in Spanish, but it's interesting that it "thinks" in English.
I find the premise of @veilid.com to be so interesting because of that. An internet where we didn't mine people's data and drive toward monetization is the vision.
I was just thinking about this this weekend. Everything is AI, AI, AI because it's one novel tool, but I feel like there was a time where we were trying to use tech to solve real problems and create products that helped people and made lives better. I'm trying to figure out how to get back there. π
