This Week in Squirrels: 2025-W40 A weekly wrap up of my thoughts, experiences, and finds.

I didn't post a standard post as I was sick, but I was still journaling A LOT and ended up with a DOOZY of a post.

It is fascinating to reference back through weeklies as my thoughts on things evolve and I find more related writings.

Why I Choose Ownership over Unlimited Access Sneaker Pimp’s “Becoming X” … Yep, that’s the whole post. The entire reason I buy almost every track of music I enjoy is because of Sneaker Pimp’s “Becoming X.”

After this stressful week I didn't have a tech post in me. I will continue the Forgejo series soon, but for now, a counterpoint to my article on how I stayed with kindle books, and why I buy music instead.

Oh, for fuck's.

THIS IS NOT DIFFICULT.

DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON A LIST IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO THE GOVERNMENT WANTS LISTS OF.

PUT YOUR NAME ON ALL THE LISTS IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON THEY DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO PROSECUTE EN MASSE. FLOOD THE ZONE.

The Great Forgejo Migration: Introduction Welcome to the Great British Bake-Off, I mean Forgejo migration! I intended this post to be the whole story of how I took a week to migrate nearly 60 repositories to my own forge and set up CI/CD and ...

I picked to start writing about my Forgejo migration! I thought this was going to be a post or two, but after a huge intro and thinking about all the things I want to share, it is going to be a series.

This Week in Squirrels: 2025-W37 A weekly wrap up of my thoughts, experiances, and finds.

Another weekly post!? I am on a ROLL!

I am actually far more excited about the fact that I have a completely new theme and restructured a bit of my site.

I am hoping I get a cool page card when I share this and not some hot mess. Wish me luck 😆

This Week in Squirrels: Intro Welcome to a brand new series of posts. This blog started as the continuation of my LiveJournal, and I am returning to my roots for this series. I miss blogging my thoughts. This blog went pretty quie...

Since I haven't been all that back on posting I decided to compile all the thoughts/journally/whatever I had during the week and post in on my blog instead. I am going to try to make this a regular thing.

I just really needed to bring back livejournal 😆

"A screenshot of an NBC News article headline. The headline reads: 'Texas bill would make identifying as transgender a felony punishable by jail.' Below the headline, a subtext states: 'The bill, while unlikely to pass, highlights the increasing extremism of legislation targeting trans people, especially in Texas, in recent years.' The NBC News logo is visible at the top, along with a navigation bar that includes a 'WATCH' button and a user profile icon."

I need y'all to sit with this headline and understand what is being done to our community. They're trying to criminalize our very existence.

This is a campaign of eradication.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

A page with the title "LGB Travelers"

‼️ The State Department has REMOVED TQIA+ on their page of recommendations for queer travelers. This page yesterday said "LGBTQIA+" and now just says "LGB".

The federal government is trying to erase trans people from existence.

Facebook flags Linux topics as 'cybersecurity threats' — posts and users being blocked DistroWatch is one of the largest affected organizations.

This is in no way the most egregious thing facebook has done in the last few weeks but this is by far the most confusing to me. How does this new "free speech" and "no censorship" agenda intersect with flagging everything linux?

The more depressed I become the more I miss project and team management. I don’t know what to feel about that.

I have never felt so seen

Putting a 🏳️‍⚧️ in my name here. Normally I don’t lead with “oh also I am trans” but it’s clear to me that this is what society needs me to do. It needs me to be very clear and open about my queerness.

I am not a conspiracy nut job but this is one of those things that make me believe the talk that a lot of internet discourse around pride is psyops.
What agency DOESNT already know where pride is fr?

Company layoff is impacting me, so I'm back on the market ya'll. I'm actively looking for DevOps/SRE/OSS and adjacent type positions as an IC or manager. Ideally, I want to build dope stuff with dope people. <3

I just saw HOPE is scheduled within a week of DefCon this year. weLP looks life DefCon is canceled for reals.

Part of me wants to know why 2600 would book over a group as petty as frat party hackers but far more of me does not care.

but obsidian is not only my personal knowledge manager but also my journal and tracker. So there is a lot to say for it being super extensible but also stable. I don't feel I need to fiddle it frequently, just take regular cleaning sweeps

I have been thinking a lot about how 2024 is the year Obsidian got "boring," and how that is a good thing.

When I first got into obsidian every plugin I touched was updated many times a week and app updates were flowing too. Now it's monthly updates for either at best.
