Forest disturbances in Europe could double by the end of the century
๐ Behind the Paper: 'Forest disturbances in Europe could double by the end of the century.' ๐ Provides the comprehensive assessment to date of how forest disturbances across the continent may evolve through 2100 under different climate scenarios.๐ bit.ly/3NnaviC @ale-collalti.bsky.social
Not every day you get to share a paper published in @science.org . Yesterday โClimate change will increase forest disturbances in Europe throughout the 21st centuryโ was published. In short: wildfires, windstorms and insect outbreaks are projected to increase across Europe as the climate warms ๐๐ฒ
The future of Europeโs forest disturbance regimesโ a thread.
Tl, dr: Disturbances from wildfire, bark beetles & wind will continue to increase in the coming decades. Under unabated climate change disturbances could more than double by 2100.

This system simply cannot sustain itself if everyone only wants to publish but no one is willing to review.
Before you brag about a published article, ask yourself how many you have reviewed.
In the past week, as an editor, I contacted over 60 potential reviewers (many of them are reading this post right now) for just two manuscripts, and only 4 agreed to review (4 out of more than 60!).
