I did not know it was a movie until a few years ago. I grew up with a picture book version that definitely was like a novelization + film stills.

my current delusion is that i watched like 2 videos of ppl building furniture solutions for small apartments and now i'm thinking maybe i? could make the extremely specific coffee table? we need in our space???
i'm definitely taking notes. bc i'd love to experiment with making something similar myself.
Yeah! I have a couple other cool appliqués I found for like $1 at that thrift store. But the horse was really incredible.
photo of a quilting sample with a duochromatic design that radiates from the centre in denim and white. a golden beaded and sequinned horse appliqué rears on its back legs in the centre.

Shown from the side to illustrate that this has been stretched around canvas stretcher bars that are about an inch thick
Close up of the appliqué with delicious texture and the quilting stitches in the background.
Hey did you know you can stretch quilt samples like you would a canvas????
This was a piecing test of several blocks for a larger quilt I'm working on. 5 oz denim + white cotton + quilted with white thread. Horse appliqué is probably vintage, definitely thrifted.
the cover for kathleen gros's middle grade graphic novel CAROUSEL SUMMER. Two white girls (one blonde one with brown and purple hair) stand on a dreamy background with a montage of summer scenery, letters to be mailed, and carousel horses.
the cover for kathleen gros's adult graphic novel I Hated You in High School. Two white women stand in standoffish but blushing poses, crumpled note paper makes up the background.
Oh dang. I can't believe both of these graphic novels have been out for a year! In retrospect it was pretty wild to have two books debut within 2 weeks of each other. I'm so proud of these & all the work I poured into them.
Yeah! So the base pieced design was about 16" square, which is the size of the stretchers. So I measured how much of a border I would need to add to wrap around the back (ended up being about 3 inches). Finally, I quilted the fabric to some scrap batting (no backing) for more heft.
thank you kory!
yesss! I really want to experiment with making some other variations on this.
thank you!
A sketchy comic. Emma wears a ball cap that reads “LESBIAN.” She says, “honestly, it doesn’t always fit the best, but it has SO MUCH sentimental value…” She scowls, her teeth and fingers looking sharper than before, “and I will BITE anyone who tries to take it off me.”
a quick comic about “lesbian”
Here's the thread I made at the time with a bunch of fun facts about the books, if you'd like to know more.

acrylic painting of a chance passing of strangers. a white woman, her face turned towards the window of the bubble tea shop beside her, carries a stack of library books. an indian woman in the shop looks up from her phone out the window, and their gazes meet.
I'm taking a painting class & I finally feel like I'm getting to a point where I might want to share some of what I've been making. This week's assignment was "create a narrative."
Clinch cover of a fake book called "Sailor Take Warning." Two women (pirates) stand in an embrace on a beach cast in red light from a brilliant sky. An open treasure chest spills open beside them
Cover for a fake book called "Tomorrow's Daydream." Two women embrace surrounded by flowers and greenery. They wear crowns, leaning towards a kiss.
Cover for a fake book called "Midnight Under the Moon." Two women embrace in front of a haunted mansion. Red jewels drip like blood against a dark sky and a full moon. Two puncture wounds mark the neck of one of the women.
Hey did you know you can just like take a painting class? with the personal goal of learning enough techniques to be able to paint your own gay clinch covers?? For fun? No one can stop you!!!!
(medium: acrylic, with titles added digitally)
A drawing of the artist walking around with a silly smile, while a carabiner holding keys, connected to her pants, is making loud CLINK CLANK CLONK sound. Above her is a thought bubble with a robot bearing the caption "Lesbotron 3000", also making loud CLINK CLANK CLONK sounds.
happy lesbian week
photo of the same quilt art piece as the previous post, but instead of on a white wall it is surrounded by other quilts and pillows on a couch.
I've been trying to figure out what to do with the samples I make & I think this might be the way??

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice
It's 4/20, blaze it! And by "it" we mean your brief mortal life in the sun. The Vampire Lestat can't relate. We were joined by Rebecca Mahoney ( @cafecliche.bsky.social ) , author of Thrall, to discuss this very special vampire. www.frowl.org/worstbestsel...
did he think the slightly obscured "je suis" was "jesus"???
oh my godddddd
hmmmm actually maybe this is the voice acting of the audio narrator. Or a combo of both.
Nothing pulls me out of a book like a child side character who is written with a voice that sounds too young for their age. I'm currently reading a (very good, very engaging) book that has a 10 year old side character who talks like they're 7 & it's very jarring.
If you’re in Vancouver next month, come see my solo art show at Slide of Life Gallery on May 7th to 12th!! I’ll have all my art for sale as well as pet portraits on the weekend and merch of my zines and stickers :)
I've seen comments on other websites saying this is a good use of AI because typesetting is just grunt work.
No it isn't! There is a lot of skill and craft to good typesetting and this is aiming to take jobs from people to automate what should be a human process!
This sucks!
aw thanks reetta!
Every day there's some new type of made-up person to be mad about.
Two panels from Monster High: Howliday Haunt. In the first panel is a zombie boy that Frankie made shouting "AI art is a legitimate form of creative expression!". The second panel shows Frankie Stein with a disappointed look saying, "Oh no! He's brain dead."
