How many Minnesotans need to die before they leave?

ICE needs to end this surge of agents now. It was clear two and a half weeks ago. It is especially clear now. Get out of Minnesota.

St. Paul mayor responds to unrest triggered by federal immigration raids YouTube video by PBS NewsHour

It's important for everyone across the country to know what is happening here in Minnesota. I was thankful for the opportunity to join PBS NewsHour and share some of what I am seeing.

This administration can "punish" our city, and they can "punish" our state, but they will never break our spirit.

St. Paul mayor Kaohly Her ‘livid’ after ICE wrongly targets family friend, escorts him undressed into cold ChongLy Scott Thao was taken by federal agents from his St. Paul home in the frigid cold only wearing boxers and Crocs.

This incident is important to me personally, but that’s not why it matters. Every single “raid” across our city and state involves someone who is important to someone.

I’m monitoring reports of the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis. ICE needs to end their so-called “operation” and leave our state immediately.

Today, I joined with @mayorjacobfrey.bsky.social & Mayor Her to announce a joint lawsuit to end the unlawful and unprecedented surge of ICE agents in Minnesota.

People are being racially profiled, harassed, terrorized, and assaulted.

It has to stop.

Know Your Rights graphic explaining what to do if immigration agents come to your home. It states that ICE needs a judge-signed warrant to enter, people do not have to open the door, can ask to see a warrant through a window or under the door, and can keep the door closed if there is no valid judge-signed warrant. A link to stpaul.gov/immigration-resources is included.

From the West Side to West 7th and from the North End to the East Side, they are the fabric of our community and need our help now more than ever.

If you're able, please go out and support your local immigrant-owned restaurants, grocery stores, and shops today. ICE enforcement is harming their business and keeping their workers and customers scared and at home.

This week has been incredibly heavy for all of us. I wanted to share some thoughts, reflections, and actions we’re taking to stand up to this unprecedented incursion into our city.

Please know you are not alone. We are fighting back.

We cannot let them turn us against each other. Standing together is the only way we will get through these next few years.

Please be safe.

I am heartbroken. Renee Nicole Good should still be alive.

I urge everyone to use caution as you express your right to protest this horrific action by federal law enforcement. These agents are unprepared for this job, and you should not put yourself in harm’s way because of their lack of training.

I am closely monitoring the situation in Minneapolis. My heart is broken for the victim, their family, and our community as a whole. I join Mayor Frey in demanding that ICE leave our cities immediately before they cause any further harm.

Our state is better because of his leadership, I am a better public servant because of his example, and I will always be grateful for his partnership. I look forward to working with him over the next year as we make progress for all Saint Paulites.

I worked closely with the Governor when I was chair of the Pensions Committee to ensure that all Minnesotans get the retirements they deserve, when we increased the English Language Learner subsidy after it sat stagnant for decades, and passing tenant protections for renters so they have rights.

Governor Walz led our state through extraordinary times with grace and a steady hand. We owe him a debt of gratitude.

Thank you to STP Public Works for hosting me as our plow drivers, parking enforcement officers, & snow emergency parking taggers prepared for tonight’s snow emergency. I enjoyed learning more about how we keep our streets clear & safe—and to hear directly from our drivers about new innovative ways!

Truly an inspiration to us all, Melissa’s legacy is defined by her immense heart and her dedication to others. She led with both wisdom and kindness. To have worked with her was a gift, and to have known her as a friend was an honor. We carry her memory with us, though we miss her dearly every day.
