Definitely wasn’t necessary when I did my PhD (2005-2009). I don’t think any of my PhD student friends were working part time jobs. Now even my post docs are struggling to afford somewhere to live in Bristol.

I never understand this. I like to spend as little time as possible on the plane.

Screenshot from GWR web page. Text reads “11. 'Up to 50% off' claim is based on the average discount available across all routes included in the Black Friday Sale. Some routes may have a lower discount and some routes may have a higher discount. Discount per route is calculated based on the most popular Advanced single fare typically sold for that particular route.”

Super proud of my PhD student Yasin Okkaoglu who passed his viva with very minor corrections today 🥳. We’ve enjoyed guiding him through research on latent class models to estimate diagnostic test accuracy, and we’ve learned a lot too! Yasin is heading to Newcastle Uni next for a post doc position.

We were so privileged to have you both present today - thanks so much! Although we’ve now launched, BESS hasn’t been officially announced by NIHR yet so hopefully I’ll post again in a few days about who we are and what we’ll be doing!
