"As a nameless cog in a corporate machine, I have worked hours far in excess of those outlined in my hiring contract without overtime pay because I needed health insurance and was afraid of getting fired. I will bring the same fear-based performance to this position."

A thoughtful and considered piece. Glad the students at Howard are making people aware of these conversations.

In addition to being absolutely brilliant, amazing & charming in her own right, we all know she was raised by a single dad w/4 siblings and that he came to the US bc of persecution bc of his participation in the ‘89 Tiananmen democracy uprising, right?
a man in Oklahoma was speaking out against a data center in his community. He went a few seconds over time and the city had him arrested for trespassing
I'll soon head to the Sunshine State to keynote the Safe Roads Summit in Fort Lauderdale.
My topic: How cities can prepare for an influx of AVs.
I'll be joined by @wesmars.bsky.social, my partner in crime on @lookbothwayspod.bsky.social.
Info: www.browardmpo.org/safe-roads-s...
Insightful piece from @davidzipper.bsky.social: “If AVs are 20% safer than human drivers and expand total driving by 30%, total crashes would increase by 4%”
I think the jury is still out on how AVs are going to affect systemwide goals like Vision Zero.
Happy Black History Month 🖤✨
Libraries and books are from perfect. The Dewey Decimal System is imperfect. But we will never forget the work of Dorothy B. Porter. She decolonized the Dewey Decimal System. She helped us belong in libraries, in books.
We celebrate and thank you, Dorothy B. Porter 💜📚

We were down a teacher, so my sister has spent the year doing the impossible with an ornery group of seniors and an eager group of emergent bilinguals. Her mission is to encourage reading (in TX ) and we'd be grateful if you would consider donating a book or two. +

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)
Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!
Happy December, gente! To celebrate the season we will be highlighting picture books on giving, winter, and holiday celebrations from different cultures.

Alice Wong's Teen Vogue articles were archived before their removal, for anyone looking.
We all become disabled or we die. Compassion for our other humans (or even if purely selfish, yourself), is the least we can do. Alice was an oracle and we need to honour her life's work.
An ink and pen drawing of a disabled woman in a wheelchair In handwritten text it says Saturday November 15 2025 Alice Wong 1974-2025 Late last night the news began to be shared Alice Wong, the trail blazing writer, activist, and community organizer who made huge gains in visibility for disabled people, and a more just world for all. She left behind a farewell to be posted upon her death... "Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you... …I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don’t let the bastards grind you down. I love you all” Immigration Raids begin in Charlotte, NC., in what the administration dubbed "Charlotte's Web". Gregory Bovino who's led other violent raids in Los Angeles and Chicago was seen with agents raiding a Home Depot. ICE and Border Patrol agents kidnapped people from a church yard in front of kids, pulled people from cars, and detained people hanging Christmas lights. Local leaders have said this is entirely unwanted, and many in the community filmed raids and tried to help their neighbors.
Drawing of the Day:
Rest in Power Alice Wong.

There is power in using your words to share knowledge and shape minds and hearts into being more than they were before. I’m thankful for Alice Wong having lived, shared her knowledge, and taught so many so much. I feel like a better person for having sat with her words to learn…
