A lot of coverage about Labour doing badly fails to to say that they do not have a single retail (pardon the pun) policy on this- it’s a complex issue but still hard to expect people to vote for the governing party when 500g of 5% mince costs Β£5 from cheaper supermarkets

I want to explain a few things and then it might be clearer why UK trans people are upset.
In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

UK warns LGBT tourists of North Carolina and Mississippi travel Foreign Office updates travel advice after states impose new laws condemned by campaigners as β€˜anti-gay’

In 2016 the UK Govt was warning LGBT people against travel to North Carolina & Mississippi as a result of anti-trans bathroom bills www.theguardian.com/world/2016/a...

Skip to 2025 and apparently it's been the law here the entire time ? πŸ€” Makes no sense

Counterpoint: you actually did vote to deport moms. What part of β€œmass deportations now” did you not understand?

Is there any actual evidence that individual MPs can buck a national trend by building a personal brand?
Caroline Flint and others tried in 2019 in pro-Brexit constituencies and they still lost their seats.

Starmer's bending over backwards for these people and it will never be enough for them. They're your political enemies, start treating them as such!

UK Issues Travel Advisory for North Carolina & Mississippi

If you want to know how serious our decline in the UK, when North Carolina did what the Labour Government and EHRC have done, the then UK Government told LGBT+ people to beware travelling there.

GCs would have been demanding Starmer amend the Equality Act about one microsecond after the judgement had it gone the other way
And he probably would have done it too

- Will male police officers now have powers to strip search any woman they suspect as being trans?
- What does 'biological sex' mean? Is it 1. what's on your birth certificate? 2. one's genitals? 3. hormonal? 4. chromosomes? 5. A combination of all of these?
- If 1. will we all now have to carry our birth certificates around with us and present them every time we wish to urinate? If 2. Will we have to present our genitals for inspection? (in which case some trans women have vaginas)? If 3. Will we have to take a 'gender test' similar to that undergone by elite athletes? If 4. How will that be measured?
- If the answer is 5 - where will intersex people go? What is deemed to be the 'correct' balance of female hormones? Will cis women with naturally high testosterone be allowed to use single sex spaces? What about cis women who are post-menopausal?
- Where are trans men supposed to go if they need a single sex space? I cannot imagine the gender critical campaigners behind the Supreme Court decision would be comfortable sharing with people who are indistinguishable in almost every way from cis men (and trans men would certainly not want to do that either).
And finally if, as I suspect, all of the answers to my questions above conspire to create a situation where womanhood is a tightly gatekept thing, accessible only to those who meet strict criteria, and everyone else is labelled 'not woman' - How is that a win for feminism?

I’ve asked my local MP to ask these questions to the government on my behalf. Feel free to copy and paste if useful.

Why didn't the Scottish Govt lawyers make that case?
Seems pretty fundamental

As I explained in our Origin Story episode on her, Badenoch is far more transphobic than most people realise. It’s an obsession for her. As extreme as it gets. There’s no limit to what she would do if she was PM

Donald Trump: I'm going to impose massive tariffs!
Kamala Harris: Don't vote for that guy, he's going to impose massive tariffs. They'll crash the markets and kill the economy.
Trump: I think massive tariffs are great so I'm doing it.

Bill Ackman: Nobody could foresee massive tariffs.

So many hundreds of thousands of words of ink, so many countless hours wasted, explaining how this man was secretly savvy, and it turns out he’s just dumb as a rock, clueless about basic economics, and driven by a malicious paranoia that conniving foreigners are ripping us off

Everyone wants there to be a grand scheme behind all of this but the terrible truth is that extremely stupid people are in charge and they have a fanatical devotion to wrong, childlike concepts of society and economics cooked up by right wing radio hosts in order to sell tainted dietary supplements

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

The more coverage a story gets, the more important readers think it is.

So it matters when the NYT inflates flimsy Dem β€˜scandals’ while downplaying real, criminal ones from Trump and Republicans. It’s not just bad judgment β€” it shapes public perception.

We are once more again seeing the distortion created by who has access to media.

Numerous columns from or about people earning "only" Β£150k on the horror of private school VAT but barely anything from the hundreds of thousands at risk from genuine deprivation via PIP changes.
