I’ll have to admit, in light of the responses to my post, that I may have had a perception of him that wasn’t as informed as I’d initially thought.
I suppose my point is more about distinguishing between malicious intent and genuine conviction, even when the conviction is wrong or harmful. Just my view.
I personally can strongly disagree with someone without needing to assume that they’re acting out of malice.
I suppose “decent” is subjective.
I tend to reserve the word for those whose intentions appear sincere and principled; who don’t act out of malice.
