Can Canada ever be far behind? Historically, Canada has always followed the U.S. in instituting racist immigration policies. Here we go AGAIN! And no, it did not take the conservatives to pass the law - it was the (right) centrists - the effing Liberals.

Was pleased to accept an invitation from the Editors of @contexts.org (@sethabrutyn.bsky.social @aminghaziani.bsky.social) to contribute to a special section on the Canada-USA relationship along with @dbtindall.bsky.social & @pallavib.bsky.social.

Thanks, Editors sethabrutyn.bsky.social & aminghaziani.bsky.social for the invite to contribute. Truly honored.
Cool new issue of contexts.org is out. Excited to have contributed to the "special section" on Canada-U.S. relationships, along with @liamswiss.bsky.social & others here up north.
Important conversations here - check it out.

The most beautiful way to star my Mondays, reading Sulagana Biswas' column "Beat The Monday Blues" in The Telegraph - T2. Here's a poignant homage to the music that sustained my 90s, and at least for me, kept my dreams alive in a world that was mostly full of bad humans.
How are the cats taking it?
Here’s a piece led by Fateme Ejaredar (my doctoral student) and co-authored by me on the impact of Israel’s war on iran on the diaspora. theconversation.com/iranian-cana...
Thank you all for reposting!

Another great column by Sulgana Biswas - this time about the iconic disco number, I Feel Love.

By my bestie, Sulagana Biswas about a timeless protest song. More relevant than ever. www.telegraphindia.com/t2/not-monda...
Shameful
Oh no!!! Such a huge loss.
This necro-State needs to be held accountable for uncountable war crimes. But attacking and abducting peaceful volunteers for bringing aid to people that are being starved to death…how? www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblo...
students and AI can both write shitty papers, but only students can write great papers. That's like the only lesson that they need to know when they decide to use it
Thank you Aoife. Honoured.
Sharing on behalf of my @cunygcsociology.bsky.social friend/colleague Ruth Milkman who isn't on social media. Here's her statement re a problematic censoring of an obituary for Michael Burawoy to appear in ASA Footnotes #soctwitter #socsky #sociology

Unconscionable! I just requested ASA to allow international scholars to present online, given the risks of traveling to the U.S., and got a stern, corporatish no! What are these organizations we are part of?
Thanks for posting. I know these students very well and they have taken on a herculean task of supporting this newcomer young man who became unhoused and has no social support in Calgary.
The level of anxiety and sadness I am feeling about the escalation of India's war with Pakistan is unsettling. What is this madness? No one wins in a war!
