The thing is, he is not the only Dem that wanted to vote against it. There are plenty of others who wanted to but know it would be politically toxic. So Golden bit the bullet because he’s not running for reelection and the others were able to hide.

I’d have one of those big signs in our yard! How do we go about getting a big one?

Vote Talarico. Flip Texas. Flip the Senate.

It’s very likely that, if Conway were to win, we would support a primary challenger to him in 2030 or 2032. But he is a candidate for this particular moment.

While there are certainly younger, more progressive, and “fresher” candidates running in NY-12, we have endorsed George Conway because he most clearly understands the gravity of the situation, and is uniquely qualified to wield the power of a congressional seat against the current administration.

Finally, a former-football-player-turned-politician we can get behind!

Bumping this every time Talarico gets a surge. I still think it’s unlikely he would run in 2028, but don’t rule it out entirely. The common mantra right after Nov 2024 was that the 2028 nominee was going to be someone completely off the radar who explodes onto the scene. Not as crazy as you’d think.

Finally, the most important quality in the nominee is someone who can defeat Susan Collins. Platner will have a much better shot to do that than Mills.

And lack of government experience is a world of difference when we’re talking about executive positions vs representative/legislative positions. You don’t need experience running a massive bureaucracy to be a senator like you would to be a governor.

We’re still hung up on the tattoos? He got it covered and is a pretty vocal anti-hate guy. It’s not like he’s courting the antisemetic vote in any way whatsoever. He’s doing the opposite.

Have you ever heard him talk at length about his experience with Blackwater? Or you just see it written down on the resume and don’t bother to look deeper than that? When you hear him talk about it, it’s pretty clear he’s had a sharp break on his stance towards the company.

Armed and untouchable: ICE's history of deadly force - Type Investigations

This seems to be the source, the timespan of which is 2015-2021. Who was president for the majority of that period?

Abolish ICE is the moderate position.

Dramatically reducing DHS funding is the moderate position.

Impeaching Kristi Noem is the moderate position.

Arresting and prosecuting anyone complicit in terrorizing and killing people is the moderate position.

Jacob Frey is meeting the moment. If/when Amy Klobuchar wins the governorship, she should appoint Frey to her Senate seat.

So yeah, only people who are buffs on a particular genre of movies and video game.

I’ve seen Indiana Jones movies and SPR (no FPS video games) and definitely seen that meme a thousand times and I definitely didn’t recognize it from any of those places.

I think you might be in a bubble if you think that any meaningful percentage of the population would recognize it as a Nazi symbol.

5 months ago 0 0 1 0

You don’t think that’s relevant? If it was a swastika or SS or 1414, something more commonly known to be a nazi symbol, the excuse that he didn’t know what it was wouldn’t be as plausible. But it’s much more plausible given that it’s not as known in popular culture.

He is in no way campaigning in a way that would court right wingers. I find it hard to believe he would be claiming online to be a communist a few years ago, and it was actually a long-con on left wingers.

If you think that’s the defense, I think you’re putting your head in the sand. Respectfully.

That particular symbol is not one that is immediately identifiable by 99.99% of the population. His defense seems reasonable, that he just wanted a scary skull tattoo.

Bookmark this: James Talarico is a real 2028 presidential contender, if he wants it, whether he wins Texas or not. He will be THE national democrat that draws the strongest contrast with Trump. Speaks with quiet confidence, and true moral clarity.

This is the guy.

Moral clarity, finally.

He definitely needs to be more front and center. He should run for US Senate.

But also, he’s currently a Texas state senator. He’s probably the most well known state senator in the country right now. I think he’s gotten plenty of exposure considering his current job.

Big emphatic yes to Zohran Mamdani

Big emphatic no to Kshama Sawant

Say yes to leaders who embrace a positive vision of the future that builds coalitions across traditional political lines.

Say no to leaders who antagonize anyone that does not agree with them on 100%

You think it’s guaranteed that Cuomo and Mamdani both run in the general even if they lose? Mamdani under WFP and Cuomo under “Fight and Deliver”?

As for so many across this country, Bernie Sanders has been the single most influential political figure in my life.

As Mayor, I will strive to live up to his example by fighting for the working class every day and hopefully make Brooklyn’s own proud.
