The thing is, he is not the only Dem that wanted to vote against it. There are plenty of others who wanted to but know it would be politically toxic. So Golden bit the bullet because he’s not running for reelection and the others were able to hide.

It’s very likely that, if Conway were to win, we would support a primary challenger to him in 2030 or 2032. But he is a candidate for this particular moment.
While there are certainly younger, more progressive, and “fresher” candidates running in NY-12, we have endorsed George Conway because he most clearly understands the gravity of the situation, and is uniquely qualified to wield the power of a congressional seat against the current administration.

Bumping this every time Talarico gets a surge. I still think it’s unlikely he would run in 2028, but don’t rule it out entirely. The common mantra right after Nov 2024 was that the 2028 nominee was going to be someone completely off the radar who explodes onto the scene. Not as crazy as you’d think.
Finally, the most important quality in the nominee is someone who can defeat Susan Collins. Platner will have a much better shot to do that than Mills.
And lack of government experience is a world of difference when we’re talking about executive positions vs representative/legislative positions. You don’t need experience running a massive bureaucracy to be a senator like you would to be a governor.
We’re still hung up on the tattoos? He got it covered and is a pretty vocal anti-hate guy. It’s not like he’s courting the antisemetic vote in any way whatsoever. He’s doing the opposite.
Have you ever heard him talk at length about his experience with Blackwater? Or you just see it written down on the resume and don’t bother to look deeper than that? When you hear him talk about it, it’s pretty clear he’s had a sharp break on his stance towards the company.

You don’t think that’s relevant? If it was a swastika or SS or 1414, something more commonly known to be a nazi symbol, the excuse that he didn’t know what it was wouldn’t be as plausible. But it’s much more plausible given that it’s not as known in popular culture.
He is in no way campaigning in a way that would court right wingers. I find it hard to believe he would be claiming online to be a communist a few years ago, and it was actually a long-con on left wingers.

That particular symbol is not one that is immediately identifiable by 99.99% of the population. His defense seems reasonable, that he just wanted a scary skull tattoo.

But also, he’s currently a Texas state senator. He’s probably the most well known state senator in the country right now. I think he’s gotten plenty of exposure considering his current job.
