Nice write up. I agree, but I only got to this point in the last ten games and looking at the veteran D market which is thin and expensive.

If you asked me 3 years ago, I would question the original deal let alone resigning him. Now, I see value. I think the term and $ are high, but I have thought that about every recent contract, so it is probably right. He does seem to help new players a bunch too.

My pet theory, he needs certainty in his pairing. He had a ton of familiarity with Simon last year and it showed. Getting used to JBD/Hamonic seemed to “freeze” him. He looked soo much better when paired with anyone else.

The question, which we can’t know, is how physically depleted is he, and is that leading to mental mistakes. He is well above the number of games he has played in prior seasons. How much good would a game off do? That would be my first step, since they have no good replacement.
