#WordWeavers Apr 21: Does the change of seasons affect your writing at all? If so, how?
Not directly. The main indirect effects are:
* Changes in the temperature of my office
* Schedule changes due to seasonal things

Oh... the old Big Guy and Rusty cartoon, especially since its only season left such a big cliffhanger.
Rusty tells the professor that they've destroyed all six robots-gone-wrong that he made; the professor replies, "... but I made seven!"
Macro photo in portrait arrangement — a jaunty little click beetle faces the camera while perched, dare I say in an optimistic posture on some stucco. His antennae look like a series of triangles. He looks curious. Happy. Hopeful. One supposes this is because he does not have a cell phone and does not read the news. All he knows is being a cool bug and also clicking his entire body like a weird awesome dude any time someone tries to Kafka his ass upside-down. I wish I could do that. Getting out of bed in the morning would fucking rule. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Good morning instead of enjoying clickbait let’s enjoy this click beetle
#WordWeavers Apr 20: What is your MC’s relationship to obtaining and preparing food?
Curses from the gods have, on more than one occasion, messed up the harvest. Most recent problem: slugs eating the cabbages. That pushed her over the edge into plotting deicide.
So... fraught?

I encountered this piece in the feed earlier today (not sure who linked it), but I would totally write 4k words in a morning and then garden/bake in the afternoon if I didn't have a day job.
So I was nodding along and then... that last paragraph! (Genre writers, eh?) substack.com/home/post/p-...
Re-upping for the evening crowd.
And I've got a #blog post up! This time about some weird #aliens who do the hive mind thing (without being the Borg): rznicolet.com/2026/04/19/b...

#WordWeavers Apr 19: If your SC was going on a trip, would they pack light or take too much?
Pack light. She knows how much fun it is to be carrying a heavy load, and her family doesn't own any horses.

<eyes skiff of snow on the ground outside>
Well, this is why the snapdragons are still indoors. Here's hoping that the pea and carrot seeds can handle a little cold weather...
This.
And even now, I've taken a book I loved as a kid, and then decided to revisit as an adult, and... whoo boy, was there ever some creepy stuff in there that (fortunately) went completely over my head a couple decades back.
And there's so much good new stuff!
You know, all I remember about that book was my dad recommending it to me at some point. ... I think I read it, but, well, even some decades ago as a kid, it was so "meh" I don't remember anything about it except for the recommendation (since that was unusual, my dad's not a big SF buff).
I can't blame you entirely -- I thought it was our fault for uncovering the AC unit.
#WordWeavers Apr 18: If your antagonist had to learn a musical instrument, what would they pick and why?
There's six of them! They could form a sextet, but... they're mostly not that musical. Maybe the Goddess of Evening would play a harp.

A trio of small snapdragon plants, sitting in individual black plastic pots on a windowsill, leaning towards the window like they wanted to get out there.
I think the #snapdragons look almost as ready for #spring weather as I am. (Just a couple more weeks, got to get past that last frost...)

This is a great article (as is the whole set about #ai): aphyr.com/posts/420-th...
Clear explanation of how LLM-based "AI" works, potential impacts on many things, and... well, what should we do about it?
The interesting bit is that despite her travels, she spends a fair amount of time in her home village during the story -- it's the center of what she cares about most.
#WordWeavers Apr 17: How far beyond the local home of your MC does your story extend?
As far as she knows anything about -- the edges of the island she lives on. There are other landmasses; they're just not relevant.

#WordWeavers Apr 16: If your MC lived in our world, would they have good financial credit?
No, but largely not through any fault of her own. She's accustomed to subsistence farming, so she'd manage what she has well, but our economics are very different. (And farming is hard.)

+1 to Deinonychus. Glad Brachiosaurus (barely) made the list, but I'd like to put forward Europasaurus as the cutest sauropod. It was tiny (for a sauropod)! Not that much bigger than a horse!
#WordWeavers Apr 15: Is your antagonist more optimistic or pessimistic? Why?
Even in just this WIP, they run the gamut from the arrogant god who thinks nothing can touch him, to the goddess who has contingency plans for revenge after her death, to [spoilers].

Awesome, thanks!
In case anybody else is wondering why the Minneapolis+Saint Paul feed is down right now...
#WordWeavers Apr 14: Do your MCs tend to run more optimistic or pessimistic about life? Why?
Probably optimistic, since I strongly prefer to tell more optimistic stories generally, but it depends on the story and the variation is large. Gotta have a few cynics in there.

(Well, I should have said hide, but you know what I meant.)
And yes, I can and do mute posts; but I still have to see them first.
Folks: If you're posting a screenshot of a screed from a particular horrific president, could you use the alt text? Or mention the name of That Guy in the text?
I do read the news! I don't need my feed to be clogged with the worst that humanity can offer. Please make it easy to filter out.
Current circumstances... do what chores she can and give instructions to the folks running the farm on her behalf before gathering supplies and leaving town again.
#WordWeavers Apr 12: Your MC has 2 1/2 days of spare time, time to...
Spare time isn't really a thing in her culture. But...
Normally, this would be winter - time to repair tools, make clothing, make sure the seeds don't rot and supplies are good, chop firewood, etc...

...19th century culture and assorted "isms."
Note: Contains flashbacks to abusive boarding school, including one brief scene of sexual abuse (not by the protags), in case that's a concern.
