The real purpose of affirmative action (or DEI) is to counterbalance these types of informal networks and practices. While not a perfect solution, we need to consider how to balance (and one day) even the playing field.

Stupid patterns in my writing that I always need to go fix in a polish include the overuse of the following:

- Begins (I mean if I'm writing it they are doing it)
- Starts (same problem)
- Heads (sorta same problem)
- Watches (replace w/ glare, stare, glance etc.)
