I hate AI, but if you reread the interview, you’ll see that he actually said it that it does quantitative social science better and thus qualitative research has becomes increasingly valuable.

In August, Jay Bhattacharya said “Training future biomedical scientists” was the 1st priority for his version of NIH.
But talk is cheap. Let’s see how JB’s doing. 🤔
NIH supports trainees mostly via fellowship (F), training (T), and career development (K) awards.
Here are funding curves for each.🧵

Wow, thank you!!!
A photo negative of a building atop a hill.
A photo negative of a woman standing on stairs of a large building with columns and statues.
Here are a few others. Anyone have an idea of where they are taken? Not even sure if it’s Minneapolis.
That’s how Andy figured it out! Plus we found a Christmas gift tag addressed to one of the daughters from the 1950 census.

We’re renovating our kitchen in South Minneapolis and found some photo negatives in the rubble under the stairs—these two are taken in front of our house. After some sleuthing, we’ve determined that this is the family who lived here in the 1940s and 50s!
Another example. This from the Elwha River dams in Washington.
"Extensive monitoring conducted to date shows that removing the dams is positively benefitting Chinook salmon and steelhead populations and is improving the ecological condition of the river."

Case in point.
"A little more than a year after the historic removal of four hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) scientists are seeing salmon reoccupying just about every corner of their historic habitat."

Seriously? You know a better way to increase salmon populations? Take down the dams on the Columbia River!!!
I’m so so sorry Laura. ❤️🩹
Thank you!!! I knew about the first Wednesday, but hadn't heard of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Ok from a Minnesota newbie...how do we know it's not an actual tornado?!?!
Try as they might, renewables are gaining momentum.
"Last month, fossil fuels generated less electricity than in any March going back at least 25 years, while renewables generated more."

“In a recent Politico poll of American voters, 48 percent of respondents said they support or strongly support the MAHA movement, but only 34 percent of respondents in the same poll said they could actually explain what MAHA is.”
This, in a nutshell, is US politics.

I’ll have to go there with my kids soon!
I saw two dinosaurs outside of my kid’s elementary school today 🦃🦃
Where does one see a woodcock in Minneapolis?
“We are not connected to, endorsed by, or authorized by the family of Hubert H. Humphrey, the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, or any institution bearing the Humphrey name.”
The how about not use his name?!?!?
Tax the rich for goodness sake!!!!
Contrast that with her ex-husband Jeff Bezos, who currently has $226 billion in wealth. If he gave away 99% of his wealth tomorrow, he would still have $2.2 billion to live on. In 2020, he started the Bezos Earth Fund, but so far the fund has only given out $2.4 billion.
Scott has given away $26 billion since 2020 to hundreds of local organizations across the world, often as a surprise to them, with no strings attached. She knows that the people on the ground know what they need and best to use the money.
On tax day, a day that I happened to teach about philanthropy in my sustainable development class, I want to remind you all that every billionaire is a policy failure. But if you must be a billionaire, be like MacKenzie Scott.

Now THIS is how you actually solve the problems.
