Not all of the elk in the northern range migrate north through Mammoth and Gardiner. There are always some bulls that remain in the high elevations and manage forage enough to survive the harsh winter.

Earlier this fall I captured this image of a coyote family standing on the embankment of Slough Creek. Any thoughts on what they might have been watching so intently?

She's always so busy, like an active teenager, but here is a shot of 1479F from the Junction Butte Pack, in a brief moment of calm, relaxing in the sage earlier this fall.

He may look cold but take a closer look at the snow on the bison bull's back. It never melts from his body heat because his coat is is well insulated. He's built for winter.

In the US there is a numbering system used by scientists to identify individual wolves, rather than using anthropomorphic names, once it is collared.

I know it's cold outside but hang in there. In just a few more months the Yellowstone osprey will be back at their nest with a new brood of chicks to raise. Just to remind you, here's a fun capture of last summer's family in Lamar Canyon.

Have you ever photographed wolves in the wild? 99% are photographed at dusk or dawn with almost no light, and at a great distance using 800-1000+mm lenses. Please share some of your wild wolf photos and we can compare.
