A lot of very brave people in Baton Rouge came forward (over and over and over again) to make sure Troy Lawrence Jr. couldn’t wear a badge anymore. He would still be in uniform if BRPD leadership (and the Parish Attorney) had their way.

This seems really sloppy. There are plenty of cases (including very recent 2d Cir. precedent that you don't discuss) exploring the interplay of the First Amendment rights of bar members and a state bar's rules of professional conduct. See, e.g., Cerame v. Slack, 123 F.4th 72 (2d Cir. 2024).

I mean, he just got $1.25M for Flynn. He must be really talented!

Just extraordinary corruption here. Shame on every lawyer remotely connected to this heist.
Gonna need a SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991) remake but featuring Director Patel.
I hate it when my friends get disbarred for making questionable constitutional arguments.

Okay, but hear me out: What if JD's conscience is bound by the Word of God as revealed in scripture and he hasn't been persuaded by compelling reasoning otherwise?
Right. That's my sense, too. (And that's actually pretty interesting/important.)
Sure, but then the same point holds. Assuming ideological alignment trumps "quality" (e.g., competent writing), presumably they could wait until 3L to hire and do an even better job figuring out who are the true believers (and who are just in it for the free chicken sandwiches and clerkships).
This usually gets portrayed as a sign of conservative legal movement discipline, but is it? Not that clerkships are some perfect meritocracy, but this seems like a recipe to get less qualified clerks. Wouldn't a disciplined movement would solve the collective action problem and hire later?
Just posted "Deportation in the Deep State" to SSRN, comments welcome! Abstract/summary below.

The request should also be denied. These defendants were convicted by a jury of their peers; at that point, prosecutorial discretion ends. The Rinaldi case (reversing denial of a similar post-conviction motion) involved the government's belated confession that the prosecution was never authorized

FC St. Pauli presents the Peace Prize in the US for the first time. The award honors individuals and initiatives that stand for solidarity, participation, and respectful coexistence. The first recipient is Wes Burdine, owner of the Black Hart of Saint Paul in Minnesota.

Sure, agreed.
But also, we know the answer. "Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime . . ." isn't about what the Pope's job is. It's about crime as the central metaphor for governance, a frame that has shaped the U.S.'s (and, particularly, Donald Trump's) politics for decades.

Everyone apparently. 🤣
I do not think our universities, politicians, government offices, employers, and fellow academics should be on the website of the "Jews promote race-mixing for others but not themselves" guy.
Everyone blasting Liszt, cooking goulash . . .
For the last year dozens of 1Ls, 2Ls and 3Ls at @uvalaw.bsky.social have been running a weekly legal clinic at Charlottesville’s day shelter, The Haven. Law schools are (in)famous for strapping you with a completely unrealistic workload and I am so proud of these students for making this a priority!
Walked past the old post office building yesterday, across from Union Station, and was struck by the inscription (which I’d somehow never noticed):
“Messenger of sympathy and love /
Servant of parted friends /
Consoler of the lonely /
Bond of the scattered family /
Enlarger of the common life.”

Would be super interested to read young Mr. Calhoun’s bench brief on unauthorized practice of law in Alabama.
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

Why is MTG speaking with greater moral clarity on this crisis than you are?
