Was fantastic to chat with Anna, Jo, and Kristi on the end of sport podcast - as a massive fan of the podcast AND heated rivalry - this was awesome. Would be useful for any sport sociology classes discussing sexuality + sport too 🙌

🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 Statement Sports Media LGBT+ shares in our community’s disappointment caused by the UK Supreme Court ruling about the legal definitions of words in the Equality Act. Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. Trans folk are having to resist relentless attacks by politicians, media, academics, etc who trash them as an “ideology” and seek to censor their lives. We must work harder to end erasure of trans people and make trans visibility, freedom and safety a reality.
“CEOs might believe they’re inclusive because they’ve had no complaints, or they might believe it’s a safe environment because there’s a gay man on the board or the women’s team is full of lesbians, but that’s laughable.”

Meant right wing but white wing is also pretty apt lol
You think their white wing echo chamber on twitter would be enough …
I thought we escaped them! Just shows you they are obsessed with spreading hate
I’m quietly pleased that MM is sufficiently annoyed.^
^but only because that has delivered us all our next fave Substack.
“It should be a medical discussion and decision between an individual and their doctors — not one made by politicians.”
Politicians must stop weaponising their anxieties to block medical transition. Trans people shouldn’t be denied care because those in positions of power object to their existence.
Meta has quietly removed major sections of its hate speech policy protecting LGBTQ people, people of color, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups. Today’s alarming policy changes will allow anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, and cease to protect LGBTQ users from being targeted with such attacks

Hi! Just in case we need to reintroduce ourselves 😉 … we’re Football v Homophobia 👋
Since 2010, we’ve been tackling anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination in football through education, at all levels of the game, and creating community-building projects.

C u both on Friday if you are still there!
For as the research highlights we hear these comments so often it becomes normalised and we learn to accept it - that it’s just the norm. We need to break this norm- every LGBTIQA+ person deserves to go to work knowing they will be safe and free of harrassment.
But like sexist comments and behaviour - we need to show that we don’t accept them and they are harmful and damaging. If you see or hear a LGBTIQA+ person receive these comments - check in on them and ensure they are ok….
people feel entitled to question, comment, and harass people about these topics because that’s what they assume and think we are- who we have sex with.
Good allyship is calling these comments and behaviour out - or calling in.
Reducing LGBTIQA+ identities to sex and private spaces of the bedroom is wrong - and we don’t do this or speak like this about cisgender or heterosexual people - so people need to stop doing this. This is why I believe there is such a high prevalence….
For example- many sports clubs/ orgs- when questioned or prompted to reflect on how many LGBTIQA+ people may be in their club, publicly open about their identity- a common response is ‘we don’t need to know what goes on in the bedroom’ or ‘it’s none of our business who people have sex with’.
Thank you to Prof Kerry Robinson Dr Cristyn Davies and the team for leading this important research.
What stands out to me, in comparison to some of my work and research - is reducing LGBTIQA+ identities and relationships to sex and sexualising our communities.
Yesterday saw the launch of an important report led by colleagues in Sydney - on the experiences of LGBTIQA+ young people + sexual harrassment. The results are shocking but not surprising -with 77% of LGBTIQA+ young people experiencing workplace sexual harrassment.
