RIP Moya Brennan, a wonderful singer, composer, harpist, sister of Enya, and gave - with Clannad - the first ever performance in Irish on Top of the Pops. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zHT...

Ah yes, “stability”…
Having The Call with my dairying father tonight, all I’ve been getting is complaints about wet fields and having to supplement feed in April. No contractor is going to be able to go into a field any time soon let alone have any work as the season gets pushed further out. Crisis after crisis…
Solid piece giving context to the blockades. A dysfunctional food system that is being negatively impacted by volatile external forces and serving to line the pockets of very few.
Absolutely magical. Handel's Messiah on Dublin's Fishamble Street this lunchtime, 284 years after it was first performed. Proinnsías Ó Duinn, 85 years young conducting, a living legend.
Please nobody tell him about the lively AI-enhanced reporting that’s been doing the rounds on Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok etc…
Any government that isn't right now accelerating plans to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy is either:
a. Incompetent
b. In the pockets of people who'd rather they didn't
c. a & b
French Prime Minister announced a ban on installing gas heating systems "by year's end" in new buildings, including multi-unit housing, to curb dependence on fossil fuels.
Biz will get aid for electric vans and trucks, up to €100,000 – including cargo bikes.
🎶 She’s like the wiiiiiind 🎶
WOAH WOAH WOOOOOAH
Still not 100% capturing the niche but would it not be more accurate to describe this as a ‘diesel protest’?
When will land be taken from the orders (and thier trusts) who are responsible for this?
When will the other mother and baby sites be examined?

Always some enterprising souls around in weird times.
Starting to feel like the vast majority of us are stuck between two groups of stubborn, short-sighted, bully-laden factions...
This is what I believe. Big Jim trying to spook them with this threat and all he gets is a counter-threat of “our army is bigger than yours”.
The bodies invited to 2pm meeting at Ag House have provided Dept of Ag with a list of their nominated attendees, and it does not include any of the nominated representatives/spokespersons of the protest group
I've completely lost track of what I'm supposed to be distracted from.
Irish far-right are making speeches about migrants at their fuel protests.. meanwhile:
'Ireland’s energy-hungry datacentres consumed more electricity last year than all its urban homes combined, according to official figures.'
Amazon AWS, Google, Equinix, Microsoft, Digital Realty, Edge Connex..
The Lebanese Health Ministry says Israeli strikes have displaced more than one million people.
That’s more than a sixth of the entire population.
Thursday’s Indo Daily Extra podcast was interesting. Started off with context-setting by their agriculture lead and moved on to an interview on O’Connell St that was going relatively okay until it MAYBE wasn’t…
one thing that’s clear, whether you’re right or left or whatever worldview, is that Irish people want a PROACTIVE government that DOES things, that TELLS them things, that PREPARES for things. the Irish government does absolutely none of this, it does as little as it can do, and nobody likes it.
Just worth saying, for absolutely legal clarity: the government does not have the legal prerogative to abolish carbon tax in its entirety. Carbon tax is a form of excise, and EU directives require excise on diesel to be a minimum of 33c per litre. (1/2)
And also…
Not as many as I anticipated, but enough to get in the way.
Energy & food affordability and security, and climate resilience, are completely intertwined and at the core of what many are protesting about. It affects everyone. We should be demanding better but the “cheaper fuel” banner is only dividing people while the toxic, vocal minority capitalise.
These numpties will flee at the first suggestion of a consequence for their actions.
They have been trained to expect none over years.
Turns out, inaction in the face of far-right action also has a price.
Will Justice Jim try the tasers?
This is about diesel prices, yeah?
Had a gander at the FB page of the group claiming to be organising the “fuel protests” across the country. 10 hours ago they posted of a nationwide day of protest tomorrow, Thurs 9th. With many 🇮🇪. Gardaí have another day at least of standing around looking at large vehicles parked illegally?
Dublin City Centre has been shut down for going on 36hrs now and there are groups of Gardai standing around just looking at the machinery parked across the streets cos apparently people can do anything they want whenever they want now as long as they pretend they represent farmers. It's bizarre
